Responsibilities

  • Proficiently perform MRI and CT examinations.

  • Onsite within 30 minutes when on call.
  • Recognize and respond to emergent patient conditions.
  • Assist in transportation of patients to the Imaging Department.
  • Prepare and administer contrast materials; venipuncture skills.
  • Coordinate with nursing and anesthesia as needed.
  • Ensure patient safety and use immobilization devices appropriately.

General Summary Of Duties

The Multi‑Modality Imaging Technologist is responsible for producing diagnostic imaging studies across various modalities. These modalities include CT, MRI, and diagnostic radiography. The technologist is a versatile individual who can float between modalities throughout a workday. The candidate must demonstrate expert skills in one of the following specialized modalities:

  • MRI
  • CT

  • Possess a level of clinical expertise and competency in cross‑sectional anatomy
  • Must have the ability to handle critical care situations
Essential Functions
General Clinical Practice
  • Know and demonstrate proficiency of all MRI and CT examinations performed at facility.
  • Maintain the safety of the MRI suite in conjunction with patients and multidisciplinary staff.
  • Promote radiation safety by using the ALARA concept.
  • Evaluate examination orders for pertinent clinical information and assess needs of patient and requirements for the exam in conjunction with the radiologist.
  • Follow procedure protocols and policies established by the department. Employees also work with radiologist and other employees on the improvement of protocols as needed.
  • Employees must be able to be onsite within 30 minutes when on call.
  • Employees must be able to recognize emergent patient conditions and act on them accordingly.
  • Assist in the transportation of patients to and from the Imaging Department.
  • Employees must be familiar with sterile fields.
  • Employees must have proficient venipuncture skills and be able to prepare and administer contrast materials.
  • Coordinate critical patient transport with appropriate nursing personnel as applicable.
  • Collaborate with Patient Services and anesthesia as needed.
  • Assess patient condition; preserve patient safety through proper use of immobilization devices.
Teaching/Personal Knowledge
  • Provide a positive environment for employees to seek their highest potential.
  • Provide appropriate information and instruction to patients and families.
Department Policy and Procedure
  • Identify anatomical orientation, sequencing of images and verify accurate patient identification of images for accurate record retention and archiving.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient and facility related information.
Care of Environment and Equipment
  • Supplies and equipment necessary for patient care are stored in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrate correct and safe techniques in the use of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff according to facility policies.
Information Processing
  • Have experience in the use of hospital informatics systems such as RIS and PACS.
  • Use computer systems in documenting, correctly and accurately, patient information.
  • Verify accurate charge capture for procedures performed.
  • Accurately transcribe physician orders and facilitate correcting mistakes or unclear orders with appropriate people.
Quality Improvement and Safety
  • Report all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors, or other facility employees.
  • Assist in identifying appropriate indicators for the department’s quality improvement programs.
  • Initiate occurrence reports when problems are identified.
