Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Multi-Modality Technologist to perform routine and complex imaging studies across modalities in a high-quality, patient-centered environment.

The role requires ARRT, NMTCB, or ARRT-N certification and BLS, with orientation already completed. Additional modality certifications are encouraged, and one year of experience may qualify you directly for the position.

  • Additional certification in MR, CT, NM, VI, CI, N, NMTCB, RDMS, RDCS, CCI, or RVT preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex imaging exams in assigned modalities.
  • Safely administer contrast and assess allergy risk prior to administration.
  • Evaluate labs prior to administering contrast media.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families using age-appropriate language.
  • Complete post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.
  • Cover open shifts as needed based on competency.

Job description

$20,000 sign-on incentive available for offers accepted prior to September 31 2026. Terms and conditions apply.

The Multi-Modality Technologist performs routine and complex high-quality imaging exams in assigned modalities. The Multi-Modality Technologist provides safe, patient-centered care with attention to the physical and emotional needs of patients of all age groups.

Core Competencies

Perform all the duties of a Multi-Modality Technologist I.

Capable of safely administering contrast or other imaging agents including the identification of incompatibilities and/or interactions.

Expected to assess a patient’s risk for allergic reaction to contrast media and other related medications prior to administration and following appropriate protocols for escalation of concerns.

Expected to evaluate lab values prior to administering contrast media or other related medications and beginning the ordered examination.

Capable of providing accurate explanations and instructions to the patient and family using age-appropriate language and verifying that the patient understands and agrees to the completion of the ordered exam.

Capable of performing ordered exams or therapy in accordance with established imaging protocols while respecting the patient’s ability and comfort.

Capable of adhering to policies and utilizing protocols to determine that expected outcomes have been met.

Capable of documenting deviations from protocol and/or patient-specific issues that may impact image quality.

Capable of notifying the appropriate health care provider when an immediate clinical response is necessary based on procedural findings, patient condition, or other relevant concerns that may impact patient safety or care.

Expected to timely complete all required post-processing, image display, and transfer for physician review.

Expected demonstrates timely order closure, charge entry, and PACS QA completion.

Expected to routinely cover open shifts as appropriate based on your level of competency.

Advanced Competencies

Capable of performing procedures involving equipment utilized in the OR, including but not limited to C-arm, O-arm, Ziehm.

Expected to perform diagnostic studies in a minimum of two different modalities.

Knowledge and Competency

Experienced and competent in routine and complex studies.

Complete understanding of technical standards, scope of practice, department and health system policies, and safety and service standards.

Complete understanding of imaging equipment, image processing software, instrumentation, and ancillary patient care equipment.

Education, Certification & Experience

The position requires certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT), Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), or Registry by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist – Nuclear Medicine (ARRT –N) BLS and has successfully completed their 6-month orientation.

Additional certification in at least 1 of these modalities (MR, CT, M, VI, CI, N, NMTCB, RDMS, RDCS, CCI, or RVT)

Actual Salary offers will be based on several key factors to include relevant work experience, credentials, and qualifications.

Compensation Ranges:

  • Multi-Modality Technologist I: $32.00 - $43.49
  • Multi-Modality Technologist II: $32.00 - $48.70
  • Multi-Modality Technologist III: $35.19 - $54.55
