Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Devens, MA is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Technician to keep our corrugated packaging plant equipment running to OEM standards. You will troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems, perform preventive and emergency maintenance, and support safety and uptime as part of a collaborative team.

The role requires a minimum of 2 years in industrial maintenance with preferred 5+ years, and may involve forklift operation, adherence to 5S, and use of maintenance

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years experience with large industrial equipment; 5+ years preferred.
• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills on high-speed packaging equipment.
• Ability to reference equipment manuals and follow OEM standards.
• Excellent communication and team attitude.
• Experience in corrugated packaging or similar high-volume manufacturing valued.
• Fireman license valid in MA or willingness to obtain one at company expense.

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic or Technician

Location: 51 Independence Drive, Devens, MA 01434

Shift: 3rd/Off shift, 5 pm - 5 am, 4 on/3 off

Overtime: Must be flexible to work daily and/or weekend overtime as needed

The Opportunity:

As an Industrial maintenance mechanic or technician for our corrugated packaging plant, you will work to keep our equipment up and running to OEM standards. You will use your expertise and experience to work with maintenance leadership, our operators & vendors to ensure maximum uptime and help us safely meet our production goals. Devens is a nonunion facility.

How you will help us:

• Follow all safety rules and practices
• Depending on your level, provide electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, preventive and emergency maintenance for our fast-paced corrugated packaging facility
• As priorities demand, performing emergency breakdown maintenance as necessary to support plant operations including preventive maintenance activities such as lubricating, measuring wear, measuring positions, repositioning components; and observing operations, vibrations, and noise levels.
• Our more senior team members are expected to help train peers and junior team members on skillsets you can share

What you will need to succeed:

• Depending on your career level, a successful candidate will have demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical systems, mechanical drives, pneumatics, hydraulics on high speed, high volume industrial equipment.
• Critical skillset is troubleshooting and repairing DC Electrical Controls.
• The ability to reference equipment manuals.
• Strong understanding and application of precision maintenance
• Willingness to maintain clean and organized work areas and cleaning up work areas as part of completing assigned tasks
• May operate forklifts, hoists, and other heavy equipment
• Strong knowledge of maintenance work order systems
• Strong Computer Skills & willingness to update parts inventories, work orders and work instructions on a daily basis
• Strong understanding of 5S
• A willingness to take advantage of our company paid, best in class training and development

Education and Work Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably 5 plus years’ experience working with large industrial equipment troubleshooting, preventative maintenance & repair.
• Mechanics must, at a minimum, demonstrate proper selection, maintenance and precision installation of power transmission equipment, gearbox, mechanical drives, mechanical and fluid drive systems.
• Technicians must have Electrical knowledge and experience with electrical and industrial control systems.
• Excellent communication skills and a team attitude are a must.
• Experience in corrugated packaging or similar high volume, no redundancy manufacturing environment is highly valued.
• A fireman license valid in the Commonwealth of MA or the willingness to obtain one at company expense is required.

The starting rate is $30 - $40 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 10 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
