Job description

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation Driver

Our company under Gold Cross EMS General Transport Division provides non-emergency medical transportation to people who go to medical appointments and other destinations that do not require EMT or higher skill level.

Field Supervisor

Essential Job Function
  1. Must be able to read schedules, maps, and must be able to follow driving directions. Must be able to read, understand, and speak English clearly.
  2. Drivers are expected to drive a wheelchair lift van. This is a specially equipped full-sized van that has a hydraulic automatic lift for raising patients in wheelchairs into the van. The floor of the van is outfitted with special seatbelts and straps, which are used to secure the wheelchair and occupant during transportation.
  3. Must be able to lift, carry, or balance 125 lbs. (250 with assistance).
  4. Must be able to communicate with dispatch using a radio.
  5. Shall be responsible for knowledge of medical codes and pertinent GCEMS radio signals and procedures.
  6. Will share responsibility for the condition and maintenance of the unit and equipment, ensuring that all equipment and supplies are in order at the beginning of the shift and reporting any deficiencies to the Field Supervisor on duty. In addition, shall keep abreast of any change of status, conditions, or operational procedures of the unit or equipment.
  7. When responding to a call, the Vehicle Operator shall drive in a safe and appropriate manner, consistent with the training and guidelines established in the defensive driving operations course.
  8. Shall comply with all applicable departmental and company policies, procedures, directives, and protocols.
Other Job Functions
  1. Will assist as required by departmental needs with other tasks as assigned by the on-duty Field Supervisor, or other Administrative Officer.
  2. Will assist with logistics and/or maintenance duties as departmental needs dictate.
  3. Shall be responsible for participating in duties for overall cleanliness and general maintenance to include office, station, parking lot, unit, and equipment as directed by the on-duty Field supervisor or other Administrative Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must have a current driver's license.
  • Must provide a current Motor Vehicle Report and meet the current driver standards set by the company's insurance provider.
  • Current Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is required.
  • One year experience as a van driver is preferred.
