Job summary

Compass Memorial Healthcare is seeking a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist/MLT to operate within the Laboratory Department. The role includes performing precise tests, adhering to QA guidelines, and collaborating with the Laboratory Manager to maintain quality and efficiency.

The position requires proficiency in specimen collection across age ranges, effective documentation, and independent decision-making to support patient care and regulatory compliance.

• Has training and performs capillary, venous and arterial collections from all age groups as needed.

• Documents all necessary information in the performance of technical procedures, including QC.
• Communicates with the Laboratory manager as necessary when problems or unusual circumstances arise and documents as necessary.
• Provides professional leadership, motivation and guidance to peers and other laboratory staff.
• Notifies manager when supplies need to be ordered.

Job description

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist / MLT is responsible for working within the established guidelines of the Laboratory Department as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites

• Performs careful and accurate work in any technical area as assigned.
• Performs tests within specified turnaround time for assigned area.
• Assures that QA guidelines are strictly adhered to before reporting any laboratory result.
• Complies with methodologies, procedures and services in consultation with the Laboratory Manager or assigned laboratory manager.
• Participates in performing and documenting routine instrument maintenance as assigned.
• Participates in problem resolution and instrument troubleshooting.
• Documents all necessary information in the performance of technical procedures, including QC.
• Draws legal alcohol specimens.
• Has appropriate training and performs capillary, venous and arterial collections from all age groups, including neonates to geriatrics, as needed.
• Consistently demonstrates attention to detail in following protocol for patient, sample, and aliquot identification and labeling.
• Is responsible for executing and monitoring technical practices in order to meet necessary standards, recommendations and requirements of voluntary and government agencies (i.e. CAP, JCAHO, and AABB).
• Adheres to institutional regulations and federal standards.
• Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs as assigned by area.
• Possesses ability and makes good independent decisions based upon knowledge of the overall functions, policies, and procedures of the assigned area.
• Communicates with the Laboratory manager as necessary when problems or unusual circumstances arise and documents as necessary.
• Provides professional leadership, motivation and guidance to peers and other laboratory staff.
• Is able to prioritize work appropriately and assists others as time and workload allows.
• Communicates effectively inter-and intra-departmentally with other healthcare professionals and customers to provide accurate, timely information and to reduce problems and minimize exceptions.
• Works in consultation with the Laboratory manager to assure that services are consistent with the needs of the medical staff.
• Assures adequate supplies are available and utilized in a cost-effective manner.
• Notifies manager when supplies need to be ordered.
