Job summary

Sugarbush Resort in Vermont is seeking a Ski & Ride School Supervisor to oversee the Mt. Ellen Ski & Ride School operations, including private and group lessons and seasonal programs. You will lead a team of instructors, ensuring a safe, engaging learning environment for guests and staff.

The ideal candidate is a proven leader with passion for guest service and staff development, available Fridays–Sundays during the season, and ready to train on snow with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Intermediate skier/snowboarder on groomed blue terrain.
• Experience teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or ski or snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create proper level groups for lessons.

Sugarbush Resort is seeking a Ski & Ride School Supervisor to help create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment for both guests and employees. In this role, you will oversee daily operations of the Mt. Ellen Ski & Ride School, including private lessons, group lessons, and seasonal programs. The ideal candidate is an effective leader who is passionate about guest service, employee development, and fostering a culture of safety and professionalism.

This is a three-day-per-week supervisory position, with required and guaranteed shifts on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, running from December 11, 2026, through March 28, 2027. Candidates interested in full-time seasonal employment may have the opportunity to instruct on up to two additional days per week, based on lesson demand and business needs. Compensation is based on experience and certification level with a pay range of $20-$27/hour.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Creating proper level groups for lessons.
• Assigning instructors for lessons.
• Entering accurate pay for staff daily.
• Creating schedules for instructors.
• Communication with both guests and staff.
• Filling out safety paperwork and maintaining proper records.
• Mentoring and guiding staff though their lessons.
• Running the point of sale and helping guests sign up for lessons.
• Uphold the highest levels of safety on varied terrain in a mountain environment, with unpredictable winter weather conditions in a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.
• Arrive to work on time prepared for all duties.
• Attend morning meetings.
• Supervise and assist the children in your class at all times including during lunch and snack times.
• Clearly and accurately instruct assigned levels, physically and verbally, per the progressions in our Instructor Guide.
• Provide a safe and fun learning environment through exceptional class handling and creativity.
• Assist lift attendants to properly load and unload children on the chairlift, lifting children by the vest (if applicable) in accordance with our Kids on Lifts policy.
• Assist in operational responsibilities of children's programs including registration process, directing guests to appropriate equipment fitting source, upkeep of outdoor teaching areas, and cleanliness of facilities.
• Communicate child's lesson content and progress of the lesson with the identified guardian.
• Ensure the return of children to their identified guardians.
• Uphold Company guidelines and the Vermont Skier Safety Act rules and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be intermediate skier/snowboarder, parallel or linking turns on groomed blue terrain.
• Previous experience with teaching/coaching/mentoring and/or previous ski or snowboard instructor experience.
• Experience working with children.
• Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
• PSIA/AASI Level I, Level II or Level III Certification is preferred.
• USSA Certifications preferred.
• Prior ski racing, freestyle background is a plus.
• Considerations give to uncertified candidates with good skiing/riding skills, good communications skills, and enthusiasm for the sport with a passion for passing that on to others.
• Available to work holidays and weekends - calendar and scheduling requirements for new & returning staff.
• Successfully complete mandatory on snow training.
• Must be able to stand and walk on snow for extended periods of time. Must be able to bend, squat and lift 50 lbs.
• Must have good guest service skills and work well in a team.
• Ability to work in inclement weather in a mountain environment.
