Job summary

We Are Camp in Sandy, Oregon, is seeking energetic coaches to supervise and instruct campers in Mountain Biking and other recreational activities. Coaches are responsible for managing groups of campers, providing structured instruction, and ensuring safety during activities. Strong communication skills and experience working with children are essential.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to participate in physical activities and must hold valid CPR & First Aid certifications. The position requires availability for the summer camp starting on July 5th.

Summary

The purpose of a Coach is to effectively supervise campers while instructing and communicating Mountain Biking and other recreational skills to campers in accordance with the mission statements, goals and objectives of the company. This includes goal setting, lesson planning, skill progression and evaluation.

Compensation

$16.03/hr - $19.00/hr

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for up to 10 campers during each camp for both on‑hill and off‑hill activities. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrive on the scheduled pre‑camp arrival day.
• Assist with set up/tear down procedures at the beginning and end of the summer, including hard labor, employee/management evaluations and job‑related clinics.
• Attend pre‑camp orientation and meetings.
• Attend pre‑camp training clinics.
• Hold an orientation with your assigned group on the first morning of each camp, covering:
  • Know campers’ names and make them feel welcome
  • Outline the daily program and schedule
  • Check that every camper has sunscreen, water, lunch, extra clothes and a backpack, and remind them to bring it each day
  • Ensure each camper has a certified bike helmet and inspect it for cracks or damage. Instruct that a helmet must be worn any time on a bike.
  • Confirm the morning meeting location with campers
  • Explain goal setting and assist campers in completing goal sheets
  • Build a personalized “Perfect Balance” plan based on individual goals and ability level
• Intermingle with campers at meals and engage them to make them feel welcomed and included.
• Attend the morning coaches meeting every workday.
• Meet your group on time in the courtyard each morning, conduct roll call, and check in with counselors and medical staff for absent campers.
• Organize and keep your group together, give structured technical instruction, familiarize campers with campus facilities, responsible riding, and procedures if they become separated.
• Coach and eat lunch with the assigned group all day on Monday and Friday, and until 12 pm for the rest of the week.
• Coaches do not ride features while on the clock, but may take personal ride breaks totaling a maximum of 15 minutes per coaching block. Before a break, the coach must plan with another coach to maintain supervision.
• Coordinate video review of campers; each camper should receive a review at least twice a day, following Head Coach procedures.
• Lead assigned specialized clinics at least every other day; clinics are assigned by the Head Coach. Campers may attend based on interests.
• At 1 pm ensure campers are directed to their clinic and assisted to reach it.
• Lead and supervise afternoon activities daily (4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.). Off‑hill activities include, but are not limited to, mountain biking, arts & crafts, waterfall hikes, bike clinics, bike facility monitoring, curfew patrol, and more. The Activations Coordinator and Head Coach will guide the process.
• On activity days and weather days, you may be assigned to attend or drive to an off‑hill activity. Responsible for a group of campers that may differ in size. Engage and participate, maintaining excitement for all activities.
• Write comprehensive mid and end‑session evaluations for campers; deliver them at disorientation and review individually on the final riding day.
• Stay at disorientation until campers are released to cabins; help make a memorable send‑off.
• Attend all meetings deemed necessary by the Head Coach or Camp Managers.
• Immediately report any accident to the Head Coach and complete a digital incident report before leaving the hill that day, regardless of whether the incident involves your group.
• Work airport days or drive airport shuttles as requested by management.
• Create and maintain a fun environment.
• Be flexible; schedules and responsibilities may evolve due to weather, camper numbers, or other factors.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidates must submit to post‑offer, pre‑employment drug testing, and a criminal background check.

Requirements (Physical & Communication)

• Repeatedly lift 75 pounds, move heavy luggage, climb stairs, ladders, ride a bicycle, and be physically able to participate in all camp activities.
• Communicate verbally with campers, staff, and parents, providing information clearly and coherently.
• Agree to random drug tests or additional drug testing required after any accident or workers’ compensation claim involving drugs or alcohol under reasonable suspicion.
• Follow all company employee personnel policies and regulations outlined in the Employee Handbook and Staff Training Manual.
