Job summary

Johnson County Community College seeks a MSF Dirt Bike School Instructor to deliver the MSF curriculum at our off-road training site in Kansas. You will prepare the training space, manage forms and waivers, and instruct groups of up to six riders while upholding MSF safety standards.

Ideal candidates are high school graduates with a valid driver’s license and MSF Rider Coach certification (or able to obtain within six months). Health and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role.

Position:MSF Dirt Bike School Instructor

Department: Workforce Development & Continuing Education

Type of Position: Non-Credit Instructor

Exemption Status: Exempt

Work Schedule, Hours per week: Varies depending on department needs.

Starting Salary Range: $40.00 per hour

Position Summary: The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Dirt Bike School instructor is responsible for delivering the MSF Dirt Bike School curriculum and training at our off-road motorcycle training site located in Tonganoxie, Kansas. Responsibilities include training site class preparation and cleanup, administration of required forms and waivers, and delivering off-road motorcycle instruction to up to 6 students at a time. Instructors must adhere to the MSF curriculum and maintain safety standards at all times.

Required Qualifications:

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Must currently hold a valid MSF Dirt Bike School Rider Coach certification or be able to obtain certification within 6 months of hire date.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand for 4 or more hours continually.
• Must be able to bend at the waist, rotate upper body consistently while in the action of climbing or kneeling, bend at the knee continually while in the action of climbing or kneeling, and rotate neck while in the action of driving.
• Must be able to carry 25 lbs.
• Must have manual dexterity for manipulation of vehicle tools and equipment.
• Reflexes must be adequate to ensure safety while operating a motorcycle.
• Must be able to speak loudly to overcome surrounding noise.
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Mental Demands:

• Must be able to read, understand instructional materials and speak clearly to relay information.
• Must be able to judge distances in relation to safety while moving.
• Must be able to accurately gauge distance, speed and trajectory of moving objects.
• Must be able to think quickly in emergency situations.
• Must have the ability to continually evaluate students within their surroundings to ensure maximum safety of all students/staff.
• Must be confident in personal skills with the ability to project confidence to new riders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience riding offroad motorcycles.
• Experience teaching, coaching, or training students of all ages including youth.
• Prior participation in MSF motorcycle training courses.
