Job description

Job Title: MSE Post Doctoral Scholar Department: Engineering | Materials Science and Engineering

Responsibilities are as follows: Conducts research on advanced structural materials and additive manufacturing. Designs and performs experiments involving Laser Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-LB) focused on steels, heat treatments, and mechanical testing; characterizes microstructure using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission microscopy (TEM/STEM), STEM-EELS, in-situ TEM, and in-situ X-ray diffraction; and evaluates phase transformations and microstructure-property relationships. Analyzes data, prepares reports, publications, presentations, and research deliverables, collaborates with research partners, supports safe laboratory operations, and assists with student mentoring and proposal development.

Required Education

PhD in Materials Engineering or a related field

PhD in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field

Required Experience

Research experience in additive manufacturing of martensitic steels focused on materials science, including microstructural characterization, mechanical behavior, SEM, experimental design, data analysis, and communication of research results.

Desired Experience

1 year of experience with metal PBF-LB, heat treatment, phase transformations, TEM/STEM, in-situ TEM, STEM-EELS, EBSD, in-situ XRD, fatigue, fracture toughness, and nanoindentation.
