Job summary

Nashville Wire Products in Missouri seeks a skilled forklift operator to perform material handling and transport materials between storage areas, machines, loading docks, and trucks under general supervision.

You will obtain production schedules, identify materials, move items per plan, and maintain tallies for planning. Regular forklift maintenance and a clean, safe work environment are also part of the role.

Job description

Operates industrial forklift truck to perform material handling assignments. Identify and transport material to and from storage areas, machines, loading docks, and/or trucks. Works under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following

. Other duties may be assigned.

• Obtains copy of production schedule or shipping order and transports material or equipment to and from designated areas in the plant.
• Identifies many types of raw material, in process or finished product, equipment, or processing materials. Check identification of materials to be moved, cross-references with production schedule or shipping schedule, and moves to required location. Reports inconsistencies or problems to supervisor.
• Familiarizes self with productive capacity of machines or loading schedule of shipping services to assure prompt delivery of required items to proper destination, so that equipment does not shut down for lack of supply.
• Keeps tally or count of product moved and reports to production planning department.
• Removes empty skids or pallets and stacks in designated area.
• Must perform preventive maintenance on forklift truck, i.e., changing propane tank or batteries, change oil and water, etc. Reports mechanical or electrical difficulties to supervisor.
• May also use other equipment.
• May handle and dump scrap materials as needed.
• Keep work areas clean and orderly. Responsible for conducting all works in a safe manner.
• May perform other duties as requested.
• May participate on project teams as requested.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to sit, walk, or move, and uses repetitive foot action. Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Lifting Frequency: Medium heavy lifting 80 lbs. maximum with continuous lifting and/or carrying objects with average weight of 40 lbs.
Vision: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Repetitive Hand Action: Firm grasping - the ability to exert sufficient grip to pick-up a case of 12 oz. soft drinks or to pick-up a bowling ball. Requires approximate grip strength of 45-60 lbs. on a hand dynamometer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near and/or with moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
