Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators is seeking a high school athletic coach who mentors students and upholds core character values. The role involves guiding players through practices and competitions, enforcing team rules, and communicating with parents as needed.

Responsibilities include supervising grades and conduct, managing equipment within budget, and maintaining positive public relations with families and the community.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise aprogram.
• Previous coaching experience preferred
• The coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and stay updated on new theories and procedures.
• The sponsor must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a mentor to each student to promote development and demonstrate character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
• Gives constant attention to a student's grades and conduct.
• By presence at practices, games and travel, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
• Provides training rules and unique regulations of the sport to each student participant.
• Determines discipline and due-process procedures and communicates with parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
• Instills in each player respect for equipment and school property and its proper use.

• 2. Gives constant attention to a studentsgrades and conduct.
• 3. By his/her presence at all practices games and while traveling, provides assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
• 4. Provides training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each studentwho is considered a participant.
• 5. Determines discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contracts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.

FINANCE AND EQUIPMENT

• 1. Participates in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season. Recommends equipment guidelines as to type, style, color or technical specifications. Is responsible for operating within budget appropriations.
• 2. Is accountable for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned. Arranges for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning same.
• 3. Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
• 4. Permits studentto only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
• 5. Secures all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
• 6. Instills in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
  

PUBLIC RELATIONS

• 1. Organizes parents,players and guests for preseason meetings.
• 2. Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.

REPORTS TO: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation

JOB GOAL: To instruct studentsin the fundamental skills, strategy and other items

necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. At the same

time, the sponsormust instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially

acceptable character development, self discipline, self confidence, and pride of

accomplishment in the students.
