Job summary

Oakland Unified School District is seeking an Athletic Coach for Urban Promise Academy Middle School to coach girls basketball for the 2026 winter season. The role is part-time and contingent on enrollment and schedules for the school year.

Preferred candidates include current certificated employees with a valid California teaching credential. Certifications in coaching, concussion prevention, and CPR/First Aid are required and must be kept up to date.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of coaching theory and techniques in the sport.
• Knowledge of rules and regulations of high school athletics.
• Knowledge of adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation.
• Knowledge, skill and ability to maintain safety in coaching at practices and contests.
• High ethical standards in sportsmanship and student relations.
• Ability to communicate with parents/guardians and staff during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and coach students in the sport indicated.
• Help arrange playing schedules.
• Perform/assist in all coaching responsibilities associated with the position.
• Attend all required meetings and trainings as specified by OAL.
