Callanan Middle in Des Moines, IA is seeking an MS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach (Stipend). The role supports the Head Coach in running the athletic program and developing players’ skills and discipline.

The stipend position requires endorsement/authorization, strong communication, and leadership experience, with additional duties including supervision and compliance with district policies. Background checks are required.

Qualifications

• Valid Iowa Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization is required.
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills are necessary.
• Coaching and/or leadership experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Coach in the operation of the athletic program.
• Coaches and instructs players regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport as determined by the head coach.
• Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
• Provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
• Participates in organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to join the sport.
• Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, equipment inventory, and other related duties as determined by the Head Coach.
• Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
• Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
• Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

TITLE: MS Assistant Girls Basketball Coach (Stipend)

POSTION TYPE: COCH

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

Required:

• Valid Iowa Coaching Endorsement or Coaching Authorization
• Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
• Coaching and/or leadership experience

Desired:

• First Aid and CPR
• Knowledge of conference rules and regulations
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

BASIC FUNCTION:

To instruct participants in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary to realize a high degree of individual and team success. At the same time, the student athlete shall receive instruction that will lead to the formulization and internalization of moral values, pride of accomplishment, self- discipline, self-confidence, and sportsmanship. Assist the Head Coach in the alignment and implementation of systems and skill development regarding the athletic program.
