Job summary

Logan Regional Medical Center, a 132-bed community hospital in southern West Virginia, is seeking an MRI technologist to perform magnetic resonance imaging in accordance with scope and standards of practice.

The role includes patient education, protocol selection, safety, image quality, and collaboration with licensed practitioners. Requires JRCRTE education, ARRT registry, and BLS certification with state licensure as required. One year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an approved JRCRTE program and pass the ARRT registry within one year after graduation.
• Current ARRT registration and BLS certification.
• State licensure as required by the state of practice.

Responsibilities

• Receive, relay and document orders in the patient chart per policies.
• Educate and prepare patients for MRI procedures.
• Select protocols and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety.
• Apply ALARA principles to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
• Observe exam and machine during procedures and report outcomes.
• Clean and disinfect MRI suite and equipment per infection control policy.
• Evaluate images for proper positioning and quality; determine if additional images are needed.
• Corroborate patient history with procedures and ensure documentation is available for licensed practitioners.
• Postprocess images and data and verify archival storage.
• Maintain medical records with confidentiality and policy adherence.
• Identify and respond to emergencies; communicate issues to supervisor.
• Work as a cooperative team member with coworkers in all departments.

Job Summary

Performs magnetic resonance imaging in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.

Essential Functions

• Receive, relay and document verbal, facsimile, electronic and/or telephone orders in the patient’s chart as permitted by state and company policies.
• Provide education and prepare patients for procedures.
• Select the appropriate protocol and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety.
• Apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others.
• Apply three basic principles of radiation safety: time, distance and shielding.
• Observe patient and machine during procedure and report any unexpected outcomes.
• Clean and disinfect x-ray room and equipment as per infection control policy.
• Evaluate images for proper positioning and determine if additional images will improve the procedure or treatment outcome.
• Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded.
• Corroborate a patient’s clinical history with the procedure and ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.
• Postprocess images and data.
• Verify archival storage of exam data.
• Assist in maintaining medical records while respecting confidentiality and established policy.
• Identify and respond to emergency situations.
• Follow process for managing equipment and physical environment to ensure a safe working environment. Communicate issues, concerns, and opportunities for improvement to immediate supervisor routinely. Work cooperatively as a team member with co-workers in all departments of the hospital.
• Apply principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care.
• Provide optimal patient care.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduated from an approved Joint Review Committee of Radiologic Technology program (JRCRTE) and is required to successfully pass the registry that is administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within one year of post-graduation.

Licenses/Certifications

• The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration.
• Current BLS certification.
• State certifications/licensure as required by the state of practice.

Experience

• One year experience in diagnostic imaging preferred.
