Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an MRI Technologist to perform diagnostic MRI imaging while ensuring patient safety and comfort. The role requires adherence to imaging protocols and accurate documentation in EPIC/Visage, with emphasis on quality assurance and timely exam handling.

The candidate will administer contrast as needed, monitor patients, and coordinate exam flow across offsite centers, upholding compliance and safety standards throughout imaging procedures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
  • ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or ARMRIT certification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains patient safety throughout the MRI process: screening, prep, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
  • Produces diagnostic-quality MRI images using approved protocols and standards.
  • Applies professional judgment to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action if needed.
  • Administers contrast per policy, including screening and monitoring for adverse events.
  • Operates MRI equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
  • Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
  • Documents exam setup, image routing, results, and charging accuracy in the system.
  • Upholds quality, safety, and compliance standards in all imaging activities.

This role will fulfill hours between Central DuPage Hospital and our offsite Immediate Care Centers.

Job Description

The MRI Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
  • Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
  • Applies professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
  • Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
  • Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
  • Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
  • Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, infection prevention measures and safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members.
  • Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
  • Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth.
  • Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs.
  • Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the MRI process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
  • Performs MRI safety screening, including implant and foreign body evaluation, and ensures appropriate clearance prior to exposure to the magnetic field.
  • Enforces controlled access and safe practices within the MRI environment.
  • Produces diagnostic-quality MRI images using approved protocols and professional standards.
  • Applies professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
  • Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening, IV access when required, monitoring, and response to adverse events.
  • Safe operation of MRI equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
  • Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in EPIC and Visage, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy.
  • Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, certifications, and compliance requirements.
Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) OR American Registry of MR Technologist (ARMRIT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
