Job Description

The Intern MRI Tech has the unique opportunity to be hired while enrolled in an accredited MRI program. The Intern MRI Tech will focus on patient safety and is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and the policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting.

Responsibilities include transporting the patient to and from the department, completing all necessary documentation, and, once the patient is in the department, positioning and preparing equipment for his/her MRI, depending upon the student's level of training in an MRI program.

SHIFT & SCHEDULE

Essential Functions/Performance Expectations

• Transport patients to and from department.
• Assists others in accomplishing the patient’s imaging examination.
• Assesses situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient.
• Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession.
• Completes appropriate documentation for the patient’s imaging examination or transportation to and from the department.
• Uses technology founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, uses equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employs procedures and techniques appropriately.
• Performs MRI safety procedures, including clearing MRI-compatible devices prior to scans.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• ARRT registered or eligible.
• For ARMRIT pathway, must be enrolled or graduated from MA, RN, CNA, EMT or other allied health field and be eligible to be enrolled in an Accredited MRI program.
• Must obtain MRI registry for ARMRIT candidates within 6 months of becoming registry eligible or obtain ARRT MRI registry within 1 year of becoming registry eligible.
• Licensure Requirements – 24 CEU credit hours every 3 years as required by ARMRIT.
• Total Joint & Spine Center initial and annual education: 1.5 hours.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The individual must be able to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak, and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or obtain another individual(s) to assist with the lift that exceeds these limits.
