Qualifications

• Performs all exams that pertain to specialty areas.

• Maintains proper magnetic field safety requirements as required by manufacturer.
• Assists physician during specialty exam.
• Processes exams and makes them available on PACS.
• Demonstrates appropriate patient/family/self-safety practices.
• Delegates and evaluates the delivery of care given by peers, other health care team members and ancillary staff.

Performs MRI procedures which are complex and elaborate to assist the physician in the diagnosis of injury and/or disease. Performs the duties and responsibilities within the scope of an MRI Technologist - Level I, as defined within the job description.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided.
• MD: No state license is required.
• OH: No state license is required.
• PA: No state license is required.
• WV: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
• Registered through American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in MRI or certified through American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
• Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
• State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.

Experience

• One (1) year experience as an MRI Technologist (apprentice experience not applicable).

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and explains exams to patients.
• Performs all exams that pertain to specialty areas.
• Maintains current knowledge of procedures in specialty areas.
• Maintains proper magnetic field safety requirements as required by manufacturer.
• Assists physician during specialty exam.
• Processes exams and makes them available on PACS.
• Demonstrates appropriate patient/family/self-safety practices.
• Delegates and evaluates the delivery of care given by peers, other health care team members and ancillary staff.
• Participates in self‑evaluation and develops a plan for professional development based on personal or unit goals and strategic plans.
• Upon completion of exam, completes all paperwork concerning the patient.
• Participates in the education/oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the preceptor, manager, or designated education coordinator.
• Active on selected committees for sharing information and problem solving.
• Arranges personal knowledge base and development by attending formal or informal educational activities.
• Assists in identifying problems for investigation, collecting data for research projects, and applying current concepts to patient care.
• Values based care that recognizes the importance of quality customer services (Service Excellence Standards) to patients and employees.

For Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

• Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, in‑services, and competency validation.

Physical Requirements

• Extended periods of standing and walking.
• Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs of weight.
• Carry items of up to 20 lbs.

Working Environment

• Works in a strong magnetic field.
• May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens.
• May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries, and death.
• Possible exposure to ionizing radiation and sharps.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of MRI procedures and safety issues, organizational skills, communication skills, computer skills, multi‑tasking.
• Ability to prioritize and manage a variety of situations at any given time.

MRI Clinical Ladder

• Level 1
  • No experience required.
  • All MRI technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level one.
• Level 2
  • Meets requirements for previous level.
  • One year of experience (apprentice experience not applicable).
  • Completes competency of Skill Set Tech 1, plus additional skill sets.
• Level 3
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Three years of experience (apprentice experience not applicable).
  • Compliant in 3 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Completes competency of Skill Set Tech 1 and 2, plus additional skill sets.
• Level 4
  • Meets requirements for previous levels.
  • One continuing education pathway.
  • Five years of experience (apprentice experience not applicable).
  • Compliant in 5 leadership/supervisory skills.
  • Completes competency of Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and 3 plus 3 additional skill sets.
