Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI exams for ambulatory and outpatient patients while maintaining diagnostic image quality and a safe care environment.
  • Verify patient identity, exam orders, and screening information per Joint Commission standards and protocols.
  • Prepare and position patients for MRI studies with appropriate imaging parameters and protocols.
  • Acquire, process, display, and review images for technical quality prior to radiologist interpretation.
  • Perform IV insertions and administer contrast agents when required, monitoring for adverse reactions and documenting in EMR.
  • Educate patients on MRI safety requirements and explain exam procedures to support patient experience.
  • Follow MRI safety procedures and screen for implants, devices, contraindications, and other safety concerns.
  • Respond to equipment issues, patient safety concerns, and emergencies as needed.
  • Perform routine quality control checks on MRI equipment and communicate issues to leadership.
  • Support daily department operations including patient flow, scheduling, transport, inventory, and administrative tasks.

Job Summary

Join a collaborative imaging team dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality diagnostic care to patients in the Salem, NH community. The MRI Technologist will perform magnetic resonance imaging studies under general supervision, ensuring patient safety, image quality, and a positive care experience throughout each exam.

Position Summary

The MRI Technologist is responsible for preparing patients, reviewing exam details, positioning patients accurately, selecting appropriate imaging protocols, acquiring and processing images, and supporting the efficient flow of MRI services. This role requires strong technical skill, attention to safety, and the ability to work closely with radiologists, nurses, department leadership, and other care team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform MRI exams for ambulatory and outpatient patients while maintaining diagnostic image quality and a safe care environment.
  • Verify patient identity, exam orders, and screening information in accordance with Joint Commission standards and departmental protocols.
  • Prepare and position patients for MRI studies, selecting appropriate imaging parameters and protocols based on the exam ordered and patient needs.
  • Acquire, process, display, and review images for technical quality prior to radiologist interpretation.
  • Perform IV insertions and administer contrast agents when required, monitoring patients for adverse reactions and documenting care in the electronic medical record.
  • Educate patients and visitors on MRI safety requirements, explain exam procedures, and help ensure patients feel informed and supported.
  • Follow MRI safety procedures at all times, including screening for implants, devices, contraindications, and other safety concerns.
  • Respond appropriately to equipment-related concerns, patient safety issues, and emergency situations.
  • Perform scheduled quality control checks on MRI equipment and report issues to appropriate leadership or service teams.
  • Support daily department operations, including patient flow, scheduling coordination, transport communication, inventory support, and filing or other administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • Certificate or diploma in Medical Imaging required; Associate's degree in Medical Imaging preferred.
  • MRI registration through ARRT or ARMRIT required within one year of hire.
  • ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging credential R.T.(MR)(ARRT) preferred.
  • ARMRIT MRI Technologist credential preferred.
  • 0-1 year of MRI technologist experience with multiple patient populations required.
  • Experience in an outpatient, ambulatory, hospital-based, or multi-modality imaging environment is helpful.
  • Experience cannot be accepted in lieu of the required education.

Patient Care and Safety

This position requires direct patient care. The MRI Technologist plays an important role in creating a safe, respectful, and supportive imaging experience by confirming patient readiness, reinforcing safety protocols, monitoring patient status, and partnering with clinical colleagues when additional support is needed.

Location

This role is based in Salem, New Hampshire, supporting MRI services for patients in the local community. Staff may be asked to rotate across assigned MRI scanners or imaging areas based on department needs.
