Rochester General Hospital is seeking an MRI Technologist to operate the MRI scanner and produce high-quality images for diagnostic use. You will educate patients, ensure safety, and maintain a comfortable environment during exams.

The role includes on-call coverage, accurate documentation in the EMR, room prep, IV contrast administration, and interdepartmental collaboration to support smooth patient flow in Radiology.

Qualifications

  • A.A.S. in Radiologic Technology or completion of a Radiologic Technology hospital certificate program.
  • NYS license in Radiologic Technology required or must obtain licensure within six months of hire.
  • ARRT-R Certification required within 6 months of employment.
  • NYS Injection Certification within 6 months of employment.
  • BLS Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and advanced MRI procedures in a strong magnetic field with patient care and safety.
  • Educates patients regarding their procedure and maintains a safe, comfortable environment.
  • Provides on-call coverage for MRI Section of Radiology.
  • Documents exams and procedures in the EMR (Radiant Care Connect).
  • Cleans, restocks, and prepares rooms daily; handles equipment and supplies.
  • Administers IV contrast media per protocol and orders; coordinates with radiologist.
  • Operates PACS and transfers imaging data for archiving and post-processing.
  • Collaborates with all modalities for patient flow and transports patients as needed.
  • Monitors patient status and notifies nurse/physician of changes; follows orders.

JOB TITLE: MRI TechnologistSTATUS: Full TimeLOCATION: Rochester General Hospital (RGH) -1425 Portland AvenueRochester, NY 14621DEPARTMENT: RadiologySCHEDULE: Evenings, 10 hrs, Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat, 1pm-1130pm, weekend and on call requirementSUMMARYAs an MRI Technologist, your ability to empathize with patients, specialized technical skills, and dedication to quality, greatly enhances the overall success of MRI imaging for diagnostic use in patient care in RRH Radiology. Performs technical and specialized skills in the operation of a Magnetic Resonance (MRI) Scanner to produce high quality cross-sectional images for diagnostic purposes, while providing maximum comfort and safety to patients undergoing these procedures.RESPONSIBILITIESPerforms a variety of routine and advanced MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) procedures in the presence of a strong magnetic field while monitoring and maintaining essential patient care and safety.Educates patients regarding their procedure and maintain a safe, comfortable and supportive environment for the patient throughout the exam.Maintains accountability for timely and proper service to patients during unsupervised shifts.Provides on-call coverage for MRI Section of Radiology.Maintains accountability for proper documentation of exams and related procedures utilizing the Radiant Care Connect EMR.Cleans restocks and prepares rooms on a daily basis.Provides excellent customer service.Verify patient identification and order/requisition; utilizing clinical indications to assess the appropriateness of procedure and consulting with the provider/radiologist for order verification, as needed.Administers IV contrast media (they must also be competency assessed on orientation and/or annually).Trained in PACS software and transfers imaging data for archiving and post-data processing.Follows direct orders from Radiologist or referring provider for MRI imaging and contrast administration via protocol.Receives verbal orders and documents appropriately in the EMR.Collaborates with all modalities for mutual patient flow.Performs transport duties as needed.Monitor patient status; notify nurse/physician in changes of patient condition. Appropriately maintains all MRI and accessory equipment.All other duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSA.A.S. in Radiologic Technology or completion of a Radiologic Technology hospital certificate program.NYS license in Radiologic Technology required OR must hold NYS permit and obtain licensure within six months of hire.American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification (ARRT-R) required within 6 months of employment.NYS Injection Certification within 6 months of employment. If hired on or before September 13, 2021, a NYS Injection Certification is required by September 1, 2022.BLS Certification within 6 months of employment.New Graduates:Official transcript from accredited school or letter emailed directly from the school’s registrar’s office confirming program completion will be accepted upon graduation.Primary source education verification required within 90 days of start date.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSMagnetic Resonance Imaging experience.ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging Certification.Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and ability to work various software applications.Excellent customer service and communication skills.EDUCATION:LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:RT(R) - Registered Radiologic Technologist - NYS Office of ProfessionsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation.
