Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking an MRI Technologist to perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures and produce diagnostic cross‑sectional images following age‑specific protocols. This is an onsite, full‑time role with a 40‑hour workweek.

The position requires ARRT MRI certification within two years of hire, ARRT Radiography certification, and graduation from an AMA‑approved Radiologic Technology program. Experience and call coverage are noted as preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT MRI certification must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • No licensure required in state per posting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI procedures to produce cross-sectional diagnostic images according to protocol and age-specific needs.
  • Conduct MRI safety screening for patients, families, and staff entering the MRI environment.
  • Follow QA/QC guidelines for all MRI equipment and related systems.
  • Administer contrast materials and operate MRI scanner and ancillary equipment.
  • Complete clerical tasks in RIS, PACS, and hospital computer systems.
  • Rotate call to provide coverage outside normal business hours.
  • Provide comprehensive patient care addressing physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs.

Summary:

The MRI Technologist performs all magnetic resonance procedures to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes according to protocol and age specific needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs all magnetic resonance procedures to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes according to protocol and age specific needs.
  • Performs all tasks involved in MRI screening and safety for MRI patients, families, and others that are required to enter the MRI environment.
  • Follows all QA/QC guidelines for all equipment.
  • Administers contrast materials and prepares and operates the MRI scanner equipment and ancillary equipment.
  • Performs clerical duties in RIS, PACS, and hospital computer systems are associated with this position.
  • Rotates call to provide coverage outside of normal business hours.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
  • Other duties as required.

Other information:

Technical Expertise
  • Demonstrated competency in radiologic imaging principles required.
  • Knowledge of MRI scanning techniques, safety standards, and patient screening procedures required.
  • Ability to perform MRI procedures independently or under appropriate supervision while progressing toward MRI certification.
  • Understanding of MRI safety practices, including implant screening and emergency procedures.
  • Knowledge of contrast administration and patient monitoring protocols.
  • Familiarity with RIS, PACS, and electronic health record systems required.
Education and Experience
  • Education: Graduate from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Licensure: None
  • Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) is required. ARRT certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) must be obtained within two (2) years of hire.
  • Years of relevant experience: Minimum of 2 years is preferred.
  • Years of supervisory experience: None
