Job summary

Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital is seeking an MRI Technologist I to perform non-complex MRI scans, follow approved protocols, and ensure high-quality imaging for diverse patient populations. This role includes venipuncture, medication handling, and strict adherence to safety guidelines.

The position requires completion of a JRCERT-accredited radiologic program (Bachelor's preferred) and credentials such as BLS and ARRT(R). Experience in MRI and a commitment to excellence are valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in radiologic technology from a JRCERT-accredited program (Bachelors preferred).
  • Licensure/certifications: BLS, ARRT(R), California Radiologic Technologist; MRI certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs MRI exams using approved procedures and standards for speed, precision, and accuracy.
  • Receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Previews images and transmits them to designated viewing systems; performs QC.
  • Maintains room supplies and crash cart; adheres to sterilization protocols.
  • Handles MRI medications safely and follows medication disposal guidelines.
  • Documents accurately in EMR and logs; participates in shift duties.
  • Operates and maintains imaging equipment; reports any defects.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and safety audits.
  • Provides patient and family education tailored to age and demographics.

Job Summary:

The MRI Technologist I performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans that are generally non-complex in nature. Performs MRI scans utilizing approved procedures and protocols per standards of practice for speed, organization, precision, and accuracy based upon the department's accrediting agency and/or department guidelines for scan protocols, adhering to department productivity standards. Performs scans relative to the patient population. Transport medications from the delivery area to authorized imaging area.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams utilizing approved procedures and protocols per standards of practice for speed, organization, precision, and accuracy based upon the department’s accrediting agency and/or department guidelines for exam protocols, adhering to department productivity standards.
  • Per the MRI technologist's scope of practice and in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures, receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Preview all MRI images and monitors for accuracy and prepares/sends images to designated viewing systems. Perform section-specific imaging QC using established technical factors and image identification.
  • Assures room supply inventory meets activity requirements.Maintain crash cart as needed.
  • Adheres to all sterilization protocols.
  • Adheres to the medication management/disposal guidelines, including receiving, stocking, and holding the medication container provided by the Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to enable the LIP to withdraw the medication. Discards the container once it is empty.
  • Performs venipuncture. Prepares and administers MRI medications to include imaging and adjunctive medications and follows hospital guidelines in handling medications to comply with all medication safety requirements.
  • Inputs accurate and timely documentation in all applicable electronic medical records systems, workbooks and or logs.Responsible for the weekend and begin and/or end of shift duties as applicable to shift assignment.
  • Operates, calibrates and maintains imaging equipment and accessory instruments used in exams. Recognizes and reports defective equipment immediately and marks equipment as “out of service”.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities and other department/organizational committees, such as The Joint Commission, safety audits, turnaround time (TAT) projects, and customer service.
  • Per the MRI technologist's scope of practice and in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures, receives and transcribes verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Provide patient and family education, specific to age and demographic population as appropriate.
Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Graduate of JRCERT accredited radiological program (preferred)
  • Minimum Associate Degree/College Diploma Graduate of JRCERT accredited radiological program

License/Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist, R.T.(R)
  • California Radiologic Technologist
  • Imaging Registered Rad Tech / Advanced MRI Certification (preferred)

Experience:

  • Preferred 1 year experience performing a variety of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scans in a clinical environment
