Job summary

Brigham Young University is seeking a part-time Security Officer to patrol BYU facilities and protect people and property. You will work with BYU Police and campus partners, enforcing policies and responding to incidents across buildings such as the MOA, MTC, HBLL, BYU Building, and studios.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, US citizenship, Utah driver’s license, and the ability to pass a background check.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Valid Utah driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.
  • Ability to maintain department physical fitness standards.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and in all weather conditions.
  • Working knowledge of security practices, emergency response procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Proficiency with radios, security equipment, first aid equipment, and computer systems.
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol and inspect assigned areas and surrounding locations for security risks and safety concerns.
  • Enforce university security policies and procedures.
  • Identify suspicious or criminal activity and coordinate with BYU Police.
  • Assist sworn officers and respond to security-related calls for service.
  • Initiate and support emergency response efforts.
  • Monitor and operate electronic and physical security systems.
  • Complete accurate reports and documentation.
  • Promote a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
