Transocean Ltd. is seeking an experienced MPD Supervisor to report to the Drilling Superintendent and supervise the MPD Specialist. The role requires leadership in offshore MPD operations, ensuring safety and efficient performance across drilling activities.
Applicants should have extensive offshore MPD experience, well-control knowledge, and the ability to perform complex hydraulic calculations. Strong communication and adherence to HSE policies are essential for success in this position.
Reports to Drilling Superintendent. Supervises MPD Specialist.
High School Diploma (U.S.) or proof of completion of formal education or relevant craft certificate (where applicable). Successful Military Discharge – Preferred for U.S. Graduate of trade school or university where knowledge and training acquired are applicable to job requirements – Preferred. Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates. Knowledge of all technical calculations required for the safe operation within drilling operations. Valid Well Control certificate per the standard defined on the training matrix. Ability to use hydraulic modeling software. Computer literate, including a high level of competence in Microsoft Office. Require 5+ years offshore MPD experience, OEM managed pressure drilling operations training.

Disciplined application and participation in the task planning & risk assessment process. Understands and performs the roles and responsibilities as assigned at the pre‑job meeting. Understands hazards associated with the task and effectively implements control measures to mitigate identified hazards. Executes all tasks and task steps in a disciplined manner, following the sequence detailed in the relevant procedures. Recognizes at‑risk behaviour or conditions during tasks and calls “Time out for Safety” when unsure, or when the job does not go as planned. Participates in after‑action reviews to feedback lessons learned and updates the MPD manager accordingly. If using third‑party MPD procedures, highlights any deviations from TOI procedures to the MPD manager.
Reports all incidents, potential hazards or abnormal situations to supervisors. Actively executes work in accordance with company safety processes, e.g., START, task planning risk assessment, use of the prompt card, safe manual handling, working at heights, etc. Calls a Time Out for Safety (TOFS) when you do not understand the plan, when an unsafe condition is observed or perceived, when personal impairment is recognized, or when hazards and associated risks for the task change. Participates in the execution of the rig’s “Hold the Zero” plan. Complies with company requirements to safeguard lone workers. Maintains a safe and organized work area throughout all tasks and on completion of tasks. Incorporates the task planning and risk assessment process into all tasks. Applies the START process during the execution of planned tasks and daily operations. Ensures subordinate personnel are properly trained in the START process and, where applicable, trained prior to using the permit‑to‑work (PTW) process. Approves all PTW as designated by the Master/OIM through the control of work process. Ensures all task steps and controls are understood and any other activities that may be affected are identified before approving the PTW. Calls a Time Out for Safety whenever an unplanned hazard or a change in expected results is observed. Ensures company QHSE policies and other programs are communicated to and understood by all personnel. Plays an active part in weekly meetings, FOCUS improvement program, and all other company safety management systems. Maintains high standards of hygiene and housekeeping. Ensures subordinates understand their roles relative to the emergency response plan and are capable of responding to emergency situations as designated on the station bill. Conducts after‑action reviews and ensures findings are communicated to crew. Ensures required well‑control drills are performed and evaluates all personnel’s responses. Conducts DROPS inspections per the rig’s inspection program. Participates in MPD HazOp, HazID, and FMECA where required by MPD manager.
All duties are carried out in compliance with the company operational discipline expectations and HSE requirements. Fully knowledgeable in all aspects of MPD operations on floating drilling vessels and application of different MPD variants. Prepares operational procedures to be approved by the MPD manager, and approves any changes. Performs calculations for kick tolerance, IME and updates the operations matrix. Ensures BHA and pipe tallies are correct and entered into the MPD model where required. Monitors maintenance, repair, and installation of all MPD equipment, records of lubrication, maintenance, and inventory levels. Maintains inspection and certification records. Monitors the application of the company rig maintenance system (AIM) for MPD department tasks. Reviews and approves all MPD‑related permit‑to‑work as the responsible person. Supervises equipment preparation for impending MPD operations. Liaises with MPD manager on large maintenance activities such as IRJ 12‑month inspection. Uses existing MGS to ensure IME, operations matrix, and procedures capture maximum flow rates. Assists in planning job activities of MPD service providers. Ensures MPD well‑control requirements are in place; assists in supervising MPD well‑control events and reports to MPD manager. Performs all MPD well‑control calculations (mud weight increase, initial and final circulating pressures, number of strokes, etc.). Coordinates with the drilling superintendent, senior toolpusher or OIM to ensure third‑party personnel understand Transocean policy and procedures and follow safety processes. Prepares requisition purchase orders for equipment or parts to keep MPD operation free of downtime. Maintains adequate stock of parts and materials. Communicates progress of MPD and associated operations to drilling superintendent, senior toolpusher, and OIM. Recommends adjustments to drilling parameters to improve overall MPD performance. Ensures effective MPD drills are carried out regularly and recorded.
Promotes and maintains good working relationships with other departments, third‑party personnel, and customer representatives. Ensures MPD personnel meet training requirements as per their applicable training matrix. Mentors, coaches, develops and trains crew members to ensure competence in MPD operations. Provides leadership and motivation to drilling crews for MPD operations. Applies continuous improvement processes. Mentors driller and assistant driller in MPD operations. Carries out MPD operations in alignment with TOI MPD training philosophy. Participates fully in the annual performance appraisal process. Uses appropriate accountability regarding recognition and recommends promotion or disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
