Job summary

Akima Global Logistics (AGL) is seeking a Motor Vehicle Mechanic to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Army tactical and non-tactical wheeled vehicles at a contractor-managed turn-in site. You will ensure compliance with Army TMs, AR 750-1, DA PAM 750-8, and safety standards while documenting all services.

Responsibilities include PMCS, diagnostics, corrective maintenance, and preparing vehicles for storage or transfer. Travel within the US may be required; a valid license is necessary.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training preferred.
• 3–5 years of motor vehicle maintenance experience preferred.
• Familiarity with U.S. Army maintenance procedures, PMCS and TMs.
• Army maintenance regulations (AR 750-1, DA PAM 750-8) knowledge.
• Experience with Army logistics systems such as GCSS-Army.
• Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Must read Army TMs, schematics and diagrams; strong reporting skills.
• Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel within the US.

Responsibilities

• Inspect wheeled vehicles and trailers during turn-in for condition and compliance.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and brake malfunctions.
• Perform PMCS using Army standards and TMs.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and brakes.
• Document services and prepare turn-in/disposal paperwork as needed.
• Maintain logs per ISO 9001:2015 and support audit readiness.
• Follow Army, OSHA and company safety regulations; manage HazMat as required.
• Coordinate with technicians and Coordinators for vehicle processing timelines.

Position: Motor Vehicle Mechanic - U.S. Army Equipment Turn-In Site (Contractor) The Motor Vehicle Mechanic performs inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on Army tactical and non-tactical wheeled vehicles processed through a contractor-managed equipment turn-in site. This role ensures all vehicles meet Army technical and safety standards before storage, redistribution, or disposal. The mechanic supports Army property accountability by identifying deficiencies, completing corrective actions, and documenting all services in compliance with Army Technical Manuals (TMs), AR 750-1, DA PAM 750-8, and contract requirements. Responsibilities

• Vehicle Inspection & Diagnostics:
  • Conduct inspections on wheeled vehicles and trailers during turn-in to verify condition, serviceability, and compliance with Army standards.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and brake system malfunctions.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) using Army standards and TMs.
  • Recommend condition codes (serviceable/unserviceable) based on inspection results.
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on systems including engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, electrical, and braking systems.
• Conduct services such as lubrication, filter changes, tire replacement, and part swaps.
• Identify vehicles beyond economical repair and prepare documentation for turn-in or disposal.
• Support maintenance and readiness of site-owned Material Handling Equipment (MHE) when required.
• Documentation & Records:
  • Record findings, repairs, and maintenance actions on DA Form 2404, DA Form 5988-E, or automated maintenance records (e.g., GCSS-Army).
  • Maintain complete and accurate maintenance logs in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 QMS.
  • Support audit readiness by ensuring records are updated and error-free.
• Safety & Compliance:
  • Follow all Army, OSHA, and company safety regulations while performing maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with HAZMAT handling, spill prevention and environmental standards.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Support to Turn-In Operations:
  • Coordinate with Supply Technicians, Inspectors, and Material Coordinators to align vehicle processing with turn-in requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise during high-volume or mass turn-in events.
  • Assist with preparing vehicles for storage, shipment or transfer to redistribution sites.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational/technical training in vehicle mechanics preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in motor vehicle maintenance (Army tactical/non-tactical vehicle experience strongly preferred).
• Familiarity with U.S. Army maintenance procedures, PMCS, and TMs.
• Army maintenance regulations (AR 750-1, DA PAM 750-8).
• Army logistics systems such as GCSS-Army.
• Condition code classification and Army turn-in documentation.
• Ability to diagnose and repair vehicle mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret Army TMs, schematics, and diagrams.
• Effective recordkeeping and reporting skills.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills in high-tempo environments.
• Valid driver’s license: Army OF 346 military driver’s license preferred.
• A valid North Carolina drivers license is required with proof of vehicle insurance.
• Must have a Real ID.
• Must be able to travel within the US if/when required.
