The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Performs routine maintenance and repair work on automotive motors. Work involves repairing mechanical units; performing preventive maintenance activities; and performing servicing work on automotive equipment and related gasoline, diesel, or alternative fuel engine-powered equipment. Must be able to operate a vehicle for the expedition of workflow for the department. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
Valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date, is required. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.
May require a certification from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence.
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED or completion of an accredited vocational/technical program in automotive repair or a related field, plus one (1) year of related work experience in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
An associate’s degree from an accredited program in a related field may substitute for the required work experience.
Related work experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.
Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
