Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a locomotive maintenance technician to service locomotives and facilities in compliance with FRA, FDA, and Amtrak standards. You will perform cleaning, inspection, and routine maintenance of equipment and operate shop machinery to support rail operations.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, manual labor experience, and relevant certifications. A valid driver’s license is required where needed, with opportunity for raises per collective bargaining.

Responsibilities

  • Performs services on locomotives and equipment (sanding, cleaning, washing, and scraping).
  • Empties waste retention system, trash receptacles and properly disposes of hazardous waste material in accordance with FDA/Amtrak standards and guidelines.
  • Performs shop maintenance and functions as motor equipment operator.
  • Uses and operates light cranes, tractors, forklifts, and similar equipment.
  • Maintain shop/yard cleanliness.
  • Maintain proper care and use of materials, equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job.

Job Summary

Responsible for maintenance and servicing of Amtrak’s locomotives and facilities in accordance with FRA, FDA, and Amtrak standards and guidelines.

Essential Functions
  • Performs services on locomotives and equipment such as sanding, cleaning, washing, and scraping
  • Empties waste retention system, trash receptacles and properly disposes of hazardous waste material in accordance with FDA/Amtrak standards and guidelines
  • Performs shop maintenance and functions as motor equipment operator
  • Uses and operates light cranes, tractors, forklifts, and similar equipment
  • Maintain shop/yard cleanliness
  • Maintain proper care and use of materials, equipment, machines and hand tools normally associated with assigned job
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in manual labor
  • Successfully complete training and attain/retain certifications applicable to job
  • Valid driver’s license required for locations where necessary to operate company vehicle and motorized equipment
  • Experience operating cranes, power tools and hydraulic chain/sling rigging equipment preferred
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of general/manual laborer duties
  • Ability to operate cranes, tractors, and forklifts
  • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently
  • Some computer skills
Communications And Interpersonal Skills
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

The hourly range is $30.09 – $35.40 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
