Town of West Springfield seeks a Motor Equipment Operator to support construction, maintenance, and operation of Public Works systems. This role requires operating heavy equipment, snow removal duties, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Candidates should have a high school diploma and 2–4 years of relevant experience with heavy automotive equipment. A valid Massachusetts Class B CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsements is required.
The Motor Equipment Operator will work in the construction, maintenance, and operation of the Town’s Public Works systems. Performs manual work requiring specialized skill in the operation of heavy automotive equipment of considerable weight and complexity; does related work as required.

A high school diploma or equivalent; and 2-4 years of experience at an accredited technical school or on-the-job training; experience in the operation of heavy automotive equipment or the equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential functions of this position.
Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class B issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with proper endorsements: Air brakes and tanker.
Knowledge: Principles and practices about the correct, proficient, and safe operation of equipment and assigned vehicles. Applicable Municipal and Department rules and regulations about the safe operation of assigned motor equipment. Rules, regulations, and applicable laws relative to job-related safety. Principles and practices for the operation and maintenance of drinking water systems.
Skills: Effective motor skills necessary to operate various types of equipment and vehicles, good record keeping skills, skill in assessing mechanical, electric, and hydraulic problems and finding solutions.
