Elementary School Aide/Teacher Assistant
The teacher's assistant will work with students in specific academic areas as directed by the classroom teacher and will work with grades as directed by the principal in accordance with the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend handbook and guidelines. The teacher's assistant is expected to be professional at all times including following school policies, guidelines, and directives and maintaining confidentiality with regards to student and school information.
Reports to: Position reports directly to the principal
Treating all children, parents, and staff with dignity and respect.
Assisting in implementing the daily learning program under the direction of the teacher.
Assisting in preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
Assisting with set up and clean-up of classrooms at the beginning and end of the school year as requested.
Supervising the classroom for small periods of time when the teacher is out of the room.
Supervising the students during non-instructional times, i.e., before/after school, indoor and outdoor recess, and lunchtimes as per supervision schedule.
Attending school and diocesan in-services as directed by the Administration.
Assisting the class in other appropriate ways. See examples below:
Reviewing concepts taught to small groups of students
Gathering student homework for absent students
Reading with small groups
Keeping students on-task
Rotating bulletin boards and hallway displays
Referring all parents/questions to the classroom teacher for information regarding any student.
Relieving other teacher assistants for their breaks, if necessary.
In the event of an absence, arranging for a substitute as per the school's substitute procedure and notifying the teacher, school office and Principal of their absence.
Adhering to the policies and procedures of the Diocese of Fort Wayne South Bend Employee Handbook and the Most Precious Blood Teacher and Staff Handbook.

The instructional assistant conducts him/herself in a manner that is befitting of an employee in a faith-based school.
The instructional assistant participates in and helps the teacher to create a positive learning environment for all students, supports the behavioral expectations set forth by the teacher, executes any assigned duties that the teacher requests.
The instructional assistant supervises students in the classroom, the gym/cafeteria during morning duty, the gym/cafeteria during lunch, on the playground during recess, and assures that students are safe at all times.
The instructional assistant complies with all workplace policies contained in the Diocese of FWSB Personnel Handbook and Catholic School Educational policies and procedures which includes but is not limited to employee standards of conduct, policy against harassment, electronic communications policy, and social media policy.
Position is a part-time, 10-month position
Is an active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community. (preferred)
High school graduate or equivalent
Three years of successful experience (preferred)
Computer keyboarding and general business application abilities
Previous successful experience with or demonstrated ability to learn parish/school data and word processing system
Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently including developing & maintaining effective record keeping systems
Ability to compose correspondence, minutes, and/or reports
Excellent people relations skills for representing the parish to those who call, write, or visit
Ability to honor and maintain confidentiality
Motivated, takes initiative without being asked and works to streamline and make processes more efficient
