Perform mosquito control activities and surveillance to minimize the impact of mosquito-spread diseases such as West Nile Virus. This is a seasonal position.
Responsibilities
- Set up and maintain mosquito traps.
- Collect weekly mosquito trap contents and deliver a portion to the North Dakota Department of Health laboratory.
- Determine the sex and species of mosquitoes and enter data into the records system.
- Perform mosquito control activities such as treating water with larvicide and applying adulticide in public areas.
- Load and unload pesticide, triple wash pesticide containers before disposal.
- Clean, wash, and maintain mosquito equipment, including vehicles.
- Maintain mosquito storage space.
- Perform other duties of a comparable level/type as required.
- Perform related duties.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age at date of hire.
- Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver's license.
- Must achieve certification from the Burleigh County Extension Officer in the following programs: Core, Right of Way, and Public Health.
- Ability to use a microscope.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow instructions, especially those on pesticide labels.
- Ability to use Microsoft applications and GIS.
- Ability to record and maintain accurate records.
