Job summary

SAFE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION is seeking a Mortgage Loan Originator to originate mortgage applications and conduct interviews with loan applicants in a credit-union setting. The role involves gathering documents, reviewing disclosures with members, and supporting underwriting decisions in accordance with policy and procedures.

The position requires interaction across online, phone, and in-branch channels, adherence to service standards, and collaboration with a team to meet sales goals.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related real estate lending experience or training.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Enters mortgage applications into the origination system and pulls credit reports and documents.
  • Provides information about mortgage processes and credit union products to members.
  • Adheres to member service standards at all times.
  • Processes real estate loan applications and ensures compliance with secondary market standards.
  • Assists VP Mortgage Lending with training and monthly webinars.
  • Maintains records to comply with Home Mortgage Disclosure Act.
  • Responds to member inquiries via phone, email, or in person.
  • Liaisons with appraisers, attorneys, realtors, and builders as needed.
  • Cross-sells other credit union products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY: Originates mortgage applications and conducts interviews with loan applicants. Gathers documents to help support approval decision. Reviews closing disclosure with member to prepare them for closing. In accordance with sound underwriting practices as set out in policy and procedure, examines, evaluates, and submits borrower’s applicants for credit or extension of lines of credit.

  • Meets assigned sales and service goals.
  • Originates applications and conducts interviews with loan applicants through various service channels to include online, phone, Loan Service Center and Member Service Center.
  • Enters mortgage applications into the origination system, pre-qualifications, pulls credit reports, tax assessments, and DU Findings.
  • Provides in person, online or by telephone, information concerning the mortgage loan process and procedures, as well as other credit union products and services.
  • Adheres to the Member Service Standards set forth by the credit union at all times.
  • Processes real estate loan applications, including, conforming mortgage loans to secondary market standards (ordering credit reports, wood infestation reports, and income/employment and Assets Documentation).
  • Assists the VP Mortgage Lending with training opportunities such as monthly webinars, mortgage training for staff and other training needs within the credit union.
  • Maintains application and approval records to comply with the “Home Mortgage Disclosure Act” for the credit union.
  • Assists the VP Mortgage Lending with various monthly reports regarding mortgage origination.
  • Assists members, branch, and call-center personnel with questions regarding the mortgage process, mortgage products, pending applications, and member inquiries.
  • Responds to member and potential borrower requests via phone, email, online/chat, and in person.
  • Acts as a liaison to third parties as required for the mortgage process to include appraisers, mortgage attorneys, realtors, and builders.
  • Cross sells other credit union products.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma; and at least two years related experience and/or training in real estate lending; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
