Job summary

Amoco Federal Credit Union in Houston seeks a Mortgage Loan Originator to generate residential mortgage loan volume through proactive business development, relationship management, and referral partner engagement.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to generate self-sourced business and develop referral relationships with real estate agents, builders, financial advisors, and other partners.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and jumbo mortgage products and related guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage compliance, including TRID, RESPA, and Fair Lending practices.
  • Proficiency with mortgage technology platforms such as Encompass, Empower, Mortgage Cadence, and AUS.
  • Ability to maintain NMLS registration in accordance with federal and state requirements.

Job description

The Mortgage Loan Originator assists AMOCO in achieving its mission of “serving the financial needs of our members” by generating residential mortgage loan volume through proactive business development, relationship management, and referral partner engagement. This role builds and maintains a strong network of real estate agents, builders, financial professionals, branch network, and community partners to create a consistent pipeline of mortgage opportunities. The Mortgage Loan Originator serves as a trusted advisor to borrowers, identifying financing solutions that meet their needs while delivering an exceptional member experience. Success in this role is measured by loan production, referral growth, member satisfaction, and the ability to consistently meet or exceed sales goals while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

40% Develops and maintains a strong pipeline of mortgage loan opportunities through proactive networking and relationship-building activities. Cultivates and strengthens partnerships with real estate agents, builders, financial professionals, community organizations, branch network, and other referral sources to generate new mortgage business. Consistently meets or exceeds established production goals through effective lead generation, sales activities, and pipeline management.

25% Serves as a trusted mortgage advisor by identifying borrower needs, recommending appropriate mortgage solutions, and educating members on available loan products and programs. Conducts thorough financial consultations, evaluates borrower qualifications, and guides applicants through the financing process. Maintains consistent communication with borrowers to ensure a positive experience and maximize loan conversion opportunities.

15% Establishes and maintains long‑term relationships with members, referral partners, and local community stakeholders to enhance brand awareness and expand market presence. Represents the organization at industry events, networking functions, homebuyer seminars, and community activities. Acts as an ambassador for the organization by promoting mortgage products and delivering exceptional service.

15% Facilitates the collection and review of borrower documentation to ensure complete and accurate loan applications. Collaborates closely with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to support efficient loan progression and timely closings. Proactively addresses issues, manages expectations, and keeps borrowers and referral partners informed throughout the loan process.

5% Maintains compliance with all federal, state, investor, and company lending regulations, policies, and procedures. Accurately documents loan activity, manages pipeline performance, and utilizes mortgage systems to track borrower interaction s.

Knowledge and Skills
Experience
  • Proven ability to generate self‑sourced business and develop referral relationships with real estate agents, builders, financial advisors, and other business partners.
  • Strong knowledge of conventional, FHA, VA, and jumbo mortgage products, as well as secondary market guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage compliance requirements, including federal and state lending regulations, TRID, RESPA, and Fair Lending practices.
  • Proficiency with mortgage technology platforms, including AUS (DU/LPA) and a major loan origination system such as Encompass, Empower, Mortgage Cadence, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to maintain NMLS registration in accordance with federal and state requirements.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, or a related field preferred; an equivalent combination of education and mortgage lending experience may be considered.
Other Skills
  • Experience working in a credit union or community banking environment.
