Job summary

BECU is seeking a Mortgage Advisor to guide members through every step of the home financing journey—from application to funding—while delivering exceptional service and expert lending recommendations.

In this role you will collaborate with internal teams, real estate professionals, and community partners to deliver tailored lending solutions, coach teammates, and elevate the mortgage expertise across branches. This position supports growth in Spokane communities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years of mortgage loan production experience including conventional, FHA, and VA products
  • Minimum 2 years of mortgage loan sales or consultative sales in financial services
  • SAFE Act Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) registration annually

Responsibilities

PAY RANGE

BasePayRate: $21.65 hourly Incentive Compensation: Uncapped*, varies based on individual performance Transition Package During Ramp up *Uncapped earning potential aligns with market benchmark. The realistic potential earnings are in the low six-figures (depending on markets served).

Impact You’ll Make

As a Mortgage Advisor supporting BECU’s Spokane branches, you’ll play a key role in helping individuals and families achieve their homeownership goals while expanding BECU’s presence in new communities. You’ll build meaningful relationships with both new and existing members, guiding them through the mortgage journey with expertise, confidence, and personalized support.

In this role, you’ll serve as a trusted mortgage resource, partnering with internal teams, real estate professionals, builders, and community partners to create exceptional member experiences. Your ability to identify needs, recommend appropriate lending solutions, and navigate complex mortgage scenarios will help members make informed financial decisions. Beyond serving members directly, you’ll also elevate the mortgage expertise of branch teams through coaching, mentorship, and collaboration, creating a lasting impact across the organization.

What You’ll Do
  • Guide the Mortgage Experience: Serve as the primary point of contact for mortgage products, services, and processes from application through funding, helping members navigate every stage of the home financing journey.
  • Build Lasting Member Relationships: Develop and strengthen relationships with both new and existing members through thoughtful needs assessment, personalized solutions, proactive follow-up, and exceptional service.
  • Drive Team and Business Success: Contribute to individual and team goals within assigned centers and branches by enhancing the member experience, supporting referral generation efforts, and fostering mortgage growth opportunities.
  • Cultivate Referral Partnerships: Build and expand mortgage referral relationships with members, employees, realtors, builders, and other professional partners to generate new business opportunities.
  • Coach and Develop Team Members: Mentor branch and center teams in identifying mortgage opportunities, understanding member needs, and improving mortgage-related processes and service delivery.
  • Represent BECU in the Community: Participate in community organizations and events to promote BECU’s mortgage products and services, strengthen community connections, educate potential members, and generate new business opportunities.
  • Structure Lending Solutions: Work collaboratively with members to negotiate loan terms and conditions consistent with credit union policies, procedures, and lending guidelines.
  • Review and Strengthen Loan Applications: Evaluate files submitted through automated underwriting systems, identify opportunities to address deficiencies, and partner with underwriters when additional review is required.
  • Promote Regulatory Compliance: Maintain expertise in federal and state lending regulations, particularly mortgage and home equity lending requirements, and share updates and guidance with team members.
  • Leverage Product Knowledge: Maintain comprehensive knowledge of mortgage and consumer loan products and features to identify lending opportunities and support member financial goals.
  • Support Mortgage Operations Excellence: Develop and apply expertise in mortgage loan origination systems (LOS), underwriting, processing, guidelines, and tracking tools while coaching and training colleagues as needed.
  • Stay Ahead of Market Trends: Monitor developments in the mortgage industry and local real estate markets to provide informed guidance and identify emerging opportunities.
  • Generate New Mortgage Business: Create new mortgage relationships through prospecting, networking, and lead generation activities that support BECU’s growth objectives.
  • Resolve Complex Member Concerns: Serve as an escalation resource for member issues, providing thoughtful solutions and ensuring a positive, member-focused experience.
  • Support Evolving Business Needs: Perform additional duties and contribute to special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work or education related experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mortgage loan production, including conventional, FHA, and VA products.
  • Minimum 2 years of mortgage loan sales experience, and/or consultative sales experience in financial services or a financial institution.
  • Compliance with SAFE Act legislation, which requires annual registration as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO).

  • Proficient verbal and written skills to effectively communicate and provide customer service.
