Job summary

SAIC in Houston seeks a Safety and Mission Assurance Communications and Tracking Safety and Reliability Engineer (MB) to support NASA’s Moon Base program. You will ensure safety requirements are applied, verified, and maintained across the MB program.

You will review safety data packages, hazard analyses, and verification matrices; perform risk assessments; evaluate link robustness; verify tracking accuracy, redundancy, and fault tolerance; and collaborate with system engineering and mission

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Safety Engineering, or related discipline.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.
• Ability to travel (minimal) and work shifts periodically; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain Public Trust clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review Safety Data Packages, hazard reports, integrated hazard reports, non‑compliance reports and other safety data deliverables submitted to the Moon Base Safety Review Panel.
• Provide SMA expertise to SRR, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS and critical contingency EVA pre‑failure analyses as specified for Moonbase programs/projects.
• Perform technical and requirements compliance assessments of development products and provide risk assessments as required.
• Evaluate end‑to‑end link robustness across MB communications architectures.
• Ensure tracking and navigation systems meet safety-critical accuracy, redundancy, and fault‑tolerance requirements.
• Collaborate with system engineering, mission operations, and network providers to assess risks and verify mitigations.
• Review test plans, verification reports, and requirements to ensure compliance with NASA safety, reliability, and standards.
• Support anomaly resolution, root cause analysis, and corrective action development for communications and tracking failures.
• Monitor Communications and Tracking hardware for signs of degraded performance or reliability concerns.
• Review safety documentation including reliability predictions, hazard analyses, safety assessments, and verification matrices.
