Job summary

The Montessori Academy of Colorado is a metropolitan school that fosters innovative academics, character development, and a fearless mindset. The Primary Assistant Teacher assists the Lead Teacher in a classroom of up to 25 children, helping implement lessons and maintain an orderly, nurturing environment.

As a full-time, non-exempt position, it runs Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:45pm with a 45-minute break.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 and have one of the listed degrees or credentials.
• Experience with Primary aged children in a classroom setting.
• Professionalism, attendance, positivity, and flexibility.
• Strong communication with students, parents, faculty and staff.
• Criminal background check required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the prepared environment following the Montessori primary curriculum.
• Follow lesson plans; engage with students during work cycles.
• Give one-on-one or small group lessons as directed by the Lead Teacher.
• Communicate with parents about the child’s day and progress.
• Use kind, authentic language with children to support learning.
• Promote security and trust; support children during transitions and activities.
• Oversee playground time; ensure safety and age-appropriate activities.
• Be present and focused during daily transitions and routines.
• Clean and maintain classroom and common spaces to keep them safe.
• Contribute to a positive work environment among staff.
• Participate in weekly team meetings to discuss observations and development.
