Job summary

Sweetwater Care is seeking a Travel Sonographer to perform diagnostic ultrasounds across varied settings. You will handle abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular and cardiac exams, ensuring high-quality images and patient comfort on each assignment.

Ideal candidates hold ARDMS credentials, a degree in sonography, licensure, and a readiness to travel on short notice. This role demands flexibility with shifts, adherence to safety protocols, and collaboration with radiologists.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited program.
  • Certification as RDMS/RDCS/RVT by ARDMS or equivalent, with endorsements for applicable procedures.
  • State licensure or registration as a sonographer with no restrictions or disciplinary actions.
  • Prior experience in diagnostic imaging and proficiency in various ultrasound examinations.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy and pathology.
  • Excellent patient care, communication, positioning and assessment.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced department.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice and work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Commitment to ethics and regulatory compliance; valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

  • Capture and interpret images in real-time for radiologists and physicians.
  • Monitor vital signs and respond to reactions or complications.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and clinicians on care plans and follow-ups.
  • Document procedures and findings in EMR or RIS.
  • Maintain infection control and department cleanliness; manage equipment and supplies.
  • Travel to different locations and adapt to varied patient populations.

Job Description

As a Travel Sonographer, you will embark on an exciting journey, performing diagnostic ultrasound examinations to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients’ medical conditions. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring accurate and high-quality ultrasound images across diverse healthcare settings.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, obstetric, gynecologic, vascular, and cardiac scans, following established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound procedures, explaining the process, positioning patients, and ensuring patient comfort and cooperation throughout the imaging process.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring proper calibration, quality control, and safety procedures are followed to produce high-quality images.
  • Adjust ultrasound equipment settings and parameters to optimize image quality and diagnostic accuracy, while minimizing artifact and noise.
  • Capture and interpret ultrasound images in real-time, identifying anatomical structures, abnormalities, and pathological findings for review by interpreting physicians.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs and responses to ultrasound procedures, recognizing and responding to adverse reactions or complications promptly.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, and other healthcare providers to review ultrasound findings, discuss patient care plans, and facilitate appropriate follow-up studies or interventions.
  • Document ultrasound procedures, patient information, and imaging findings accurately and completely, maintaining electronic medical records (EMRs) or radiology information systems (RIS).
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain cleanliness and organization of the ultrasound department, including imaging rooms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Adapt to different ultrasound modalities, patient populations, and healthcare settings as you travel to new locations, demonstrating flexibility and proficiency in your sonography practice.
Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent from an accredited program.
  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent certifying agency and endorsement for applicable procedures (AB, OB, FE, AE, PE, VT, BR, PS, etc.)
  • State licensure or registration as a sonographer, with no restrictions or disciplinary actions.
  • Prior experience working as a sonographer in diagnostic imaging settings, with proficiency in a variety of ultrasound examinations.
  • Strong knowledge of ultrasound physics, anatomy, and pathology, with the ability to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
  • Excellent patient care skills, including communication, positioning, and patient assessment, to ensure optimal imaging outcomes and patient satisfaction.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced ultrasound department.
  • Willingness to travel to different locations on short notice and work variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed to meet imaging department staffing needs.
  • Commitment to upholding professional ethics, standards of practice, and regulatory compliance in sonography.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between healthcare facilities.
