Job summary

Hartford Hospital, part of Hartford HealthCare, is seeking a Monitor Technician to support telemetry monitoring for patients needing continuous cardiac observation. You will interpret rhythms, document results, and collaborate with the care team to ensure patient safety.

Required is a High School diploma or GED with arrhythmia recognition training; strong reading, writing, and spoken English are essential for effective communication within the fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform telemetry monitoring for patients requiring continuous cardiac observation.
  • Analyze and interpret cardiac rhythms; document findings per hospital standards.
  • Communicate results and concerns clearly to care teams.
  • Maintain accuracy while navigating the electronic monitor system.

Location Detail: 80 Seymour Street (10008)

Shift Detail: 7a-7p 36 hours per week, every other weekend, every other holiday required.

The Monitor Technician performs standard work related to telemetry monitoring on patients requiring continual cardiac observation and provides analysis of cardiac rhythms in compliance with all regulatory and hospital/system standards, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. This position also provides the interpretation, communications and documentation of cardiac rhythms and other monitored parameters.

Qualifications

Required:

High School diploma, GED, or 1-year relevant work experience

Successful completion of provided Hartford Hospital Arrhythmia recognition and interpretation training prior to completing orientation (ability to test out if prior experience)

Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English

Knowledge, Skills And Ability Requirements
  • Basic Knowledge of ECG interpretation, medical/cardiac terminology preferred.
  • Ability to maintain focus for long periods.
  • Ability to work in an environment with high activity and multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with navigating all aspects of electronic monitor system.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills with attention to detail, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Intermediate level computer efficiency.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in all aspects of work.
  • Strong ability to use skillful communication with members of the healthcare delivery team. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organization and communication [verbal, written & listening] skills.
  • Demonstrates safety practices in alignment with High Reliability.
  • Embodies the HHC leadership behaviors and company values, and effectively utilizes the HHC operating model.
  • Assumes responsibility for self-improvement in collaboration with the leadership team by identifying communicating and seeking resources or instruction/validation to meet own learning needs, and is self-directed in maintaining currency of validations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
  • Recognizes and respects diversity. Utilizes appropriate resources in a respectful and nonjudgmental manner. Demonstrated knowledge of care for age specific populations.
  • Exceptional customer service skills. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
Preferred

Previous experience as a monitor tech, EMT, inpatient unit secretary, patient care assistant, experience performing cardiac monitoring, or as a nurse aide.

Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician [CRAT] or equivalent.

Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA)
