Job summary

Huntsville Memorial Hospital is seeking a Monitor Tech to provide continuous telemetry surveillance, interpret ECG rhythms, and alert nursing staff to changes. The role supports high-quality care and patient advocacy, including administrative duties and equipment maintenance.

Under supervision of a licensed nurse, you will operate the telemetry system, manage supplies, and contribute to a safe, compliant hospital environment. Strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Experience: One year of experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: none required; CNA/EMT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides precise continuous surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on the monitoring station and documents findings.
• Escalates significant changes immediately to a Registered Nurse with clear communication.
• Operates, cleans and troubleshoots telemetry monitoring system; accounts for all monitors at shift end.
• Admits/transfers/discharges patients and enters information in telemetry system.
• Maintains patient charts and performs assigned administrative duties.

Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, the Monitor Tech provides surveillance of telemetry monitors throughout the hospital. Performs accurate EKG rhythm interpretation and other electrocardiography functions that support the healthcare team in delivering high quality care. Provides notification to appropriate nursing staff when telemetry monitor changes are noted. Serves as a patient advocate within the health care system. Maintains adequate unit stock and equipment inventories, provides clerical support related to patient care. Demonstrates understanding of the philosophy and objectives; adheres to policies and procedures of the department and organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Provides precise continual surveillance and analysis of cardiac rhythms on electrocardiographic central monitoring station, documenting per established procedure; interprets ECG rhythms, recognizes significant ECG events.
• Escalates significant or life-threatening changes immediately, utilizing appropriate ECG algorithm, to a Registered Nurse, as appropriate; communicates information in a clear, concise and accurate manner to the responsible individual within established timeframe.
• Obtains rhythm strips per hospital cardiac telemetry procedure; measures, analyzes and documents findings.
• Operates, cleans and troubleshoots all functions of the telemetry monitoring system; accounts for all monitors at the end of each assigned shift.
• Admits, transfers, and discharges patient and enters all required information in telemetry monitoring system.
• Demonstrates teamwork by responding positively to requests for assistance.
• Maintains equipment and supplies.
• Communicates effectively, reporting appropriate information to nursing staff.
• Maintains patient charts and all other administrative duties as assigned.
• Demonstrates adaptability, problem solving and professional behavior at all times.
• Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: One year of experience preferred.

Licensure/Certification: none required; current C.N.A certification, EMT-B or EMT-I preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Frequent: sitting & reaching.

Occasional: standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, & kneeling.

Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is mostly inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature. Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, moving mechanical parts, potential electric shock, radiant energy, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
