Job summary

Bay Area Hospital in Oregon is seeking a Part-time Cardiac Monitor Tech to oversee telemetry in the Intermediate Care Unit. You will work with the charge nurse/manager to monitor patient rhythms and alarms, input data into the EMR, and support the nursing team.

The role requires English literacy, BLS, and telemetry familiarity with six months of monitoring experience preferred. A strong team player with excellent communication skills is ideal.

Qualifications

  • Reads, writes, and communicates effectively in English.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Knowledge or training in cardiac rhythm strips within 6 months of hire.
  • National Telemetry certification preferred.
  • HS diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously observes central cardiac monitor screens.
  • Identify rhythms and alarms; input to EMR and inform nurse.
  • Set and maintain monitor alarm settings per RN direction.
  • Admit, transfer, discharge patients in monitoring system.
  • Assist with equipment, transport prep, and data entry in EMR.

Job Description:

Cardiac Monitor TechProvides oversight of central monitor (telemetry) system, in collaboration with charge nurse/manager.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides oversight of central monitor (telemetry) system, in collaboration with charge nurse/manager.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Continuously observes central cardiac monitor screens
  • Identifies cardiac rhythms and alarms, inputs into electronic medical record and reports to patient’s nurse
  • Sets and maintains cardiac monitor alarm settings at direction of Registered Nurse
  • Admits, transfers, discharges patients in monitoring system
  • Performs routine tasks related to proper functioning of monitoring equipment
  • Assists as needed by answering phones, transferring calls, relaying messages promptly and accurately, directing/assisting visitors and contacting physician offices
  • Utilizes electronic medical record to input, retrieve, and cross-check data, run reports
  • May prepare chart for transport of patient to another facility
  • Utilizes various electronic communication systems, i.e. MedStan, InRoster, Maintenance Connection,
  • Utilizes electronic medical record system to manage patient bed/admit/acuity status
  • Works with the unit team to ensure supplies are ordered/available, cupboards are appropriately stocked, work areas are clean, tidy, and free of clutter, halls are clear
  • Assists physicians, as requested, with the electronic medical record
  • Reports observations and safety measures utilized to Registered Nurse
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Performs quality assurance monitoring on medical records and unit activities, as directed by manager
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public; excellent telephone skills
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates effective response to patient crisis/ emergency situations
  • Strong priority-setting and organizational skills
  • Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Recognizes and reports abnormal occurrences
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES
  • Ability to read, write legibly, and converse effectively in the English language
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of/experience with identification of cardiac rhythm strips or complete formal training within 6 months of hire
  • National Telemetry certification preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology preferred
EXPERIENCE
