Job summary

Riverside Health in Newport News, Virginia is seeking a Monitor Technician to observe and analyze cardiac rhythms on telemetry monitors, informing the assigned nurse and initiating appropriate action. Keep monitors calibrated, record vital signs, enter orders, retrieve results, and manage patient charts.

Assistance with training new staff on medical monitoring systems is included. Requirements include a High School Diploma or GED; an Associate degree is preferred, and 1 year of monitor

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associates degree preferred.
• 1 year Monitor Technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Examine heartbeat patterns.
• Observe and monitor patients' heart monitors and check for abnormalities, including irregular heartbeats, arrhythmias, and cardiac arrest.
• Maintain records and documents of cardiac rhythms.
• Clean and maintain heart monitors and other equipment.
• Ensure that heart monitors are functioning correctly.
• Record patients' vital signs to provide baseline for patient records during in-patient care.
• Perform accurate and timely order entry, retrieving testing results and chart management including preparation, maintenance.
• Interpret test results and report any changes in heart readings or EKGs to the physician or nurse in charge of the patient.
• Assist with training new staff on medical monitoring systems.

Hours: 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM

Overview

Monitor Technicians observe and provide routine analysis of cardiac rhythms displayed on a telemetry monitor. Demonstrates knowledge of life threatening arrhythmias and aberrancies, informs the assigned nurse, and initiates appropriate action. Demonstrates competency in the application of all functions of the telemetry monitoring system. Performs clerical and secretarial duties.
