Qualifications

  • Current BLS certification and post-hire ECG exam orientation within 90 days.

Job description

Work Shift:Day - 12 Hour (United States of America)7:00am - 7:00pm (24 Weekly Hours)This position is responsible for the monitoring and assessment of patient on cardiac monitoring devices throughout the EHC organization including telemetry transmitters and hard-wired monitors. This role is trained in ECG interpretation and is responsible for continuous monitoring of all telemetry rhythms, interpreting rhythm strips, measuring specific waveform intervals, and interacting professionally with nursing staff and physicians in rhythm identification notification of deviation from baseline, as well as initiating baseline data collection of each event.Education & Training:High School diploma or GED equivalent. General knowledge of medical terminology. Completion of an approved educational diploma program in ECG/EKG, Cardiology, or Emergency Medical Services. Education/training (except for HS diploma or GED equivalent) may be waived with experience listed below.Experience:One (1) year experience as a Monitor Tech, Critical Care Tech, or Patient CareTech in a hospital. Hospital experience may be substituted with Two (2) years ofexperience in an acute clinical care setting or Two (2) years’ experience as anemergency medical technician. Experience may be waived witheducation/training as listed above.Required Certification/Registration/Licensure:Current AHA/ARC BLS certification. Successful completion of post-hire 4-6 week Telemetry Clinical Orientation and passing score on the ECG written exam(Rhythm Interpretation) within ninety (90) days of hire. Successful completionof hands-on clinical competencies during the orientation period.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to effectively monitor patient cardiac rhythms via telemetry or hardwiredmonitor, in addition to utilizing all other equipment as assigned to facilitatequality patient care. Communicate effectively with nursing staff, providers,patients, and staff through written and verbal means in a high workflowenvironment. Maintain patient monitoring log and document rhythms in medical records. Label telemetry strips with rhythm interpretation, ventricular rate, and measure PR, QT, and ST segment intervals. Scan / upload monitored strips every 4 hours, in addition to as needed requests as appropriate based on assigned unit and patient acuity as relayed by nursing staff. Must be able to maintain established alarm limit / parameter settings on all patients assigned.
