Job summary

AdventHealth in Ocala, FL is seeking a Monitor Technician to support telemetry monitoring and patient care.

The role requires basic arrhythmia knowledge, ECG interpretation, and effective communication within a care team. This full-time day/weekend position emphasizes patient safety, documentation, and adherence to department procedures.

Qualifications

• Must read, write and speak English.
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Completion of basic arrhythmias identification course in orientation.
• Familiar with medical terminology and arrhythmia identification.
• Ability to learn and complete competency checks within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Monitors patient ECG and telemetry; documents findings and notifies nursing staff of abnormalities.
• Maintains monitor alarms and ensures alarms are set and audible each shift.
• Assists with shift handoffs and communicates patient status to healthcare team.
• Maintains a clean, organized work area and sanitizes equipment.
• Participates in ongoing education and department initiatives.

Job Description

• Demonstrates behavior that aligns with the company's core values.
• Documents in accordance with department policy and maintain telemetry logbook.
• Observes monitors, recognizing and documenting normal and abnormal EKG patterns, and promptly notify nursing staff of any abnormalities.
• Maintains monitor alarms per policy, verifies that alarms are set and audible every shift, and troubleshoots monitors as needed.
• Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities, demonstrating accurate documentation and monitoring of activities, and supporting departmental quality standards and initiatives.
• Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrade skills, performing other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.
• Maintains telemetry printout during cardiac arrest and as indicated.
• Ensures effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient status and any changes observed.
• Assists in maintaining a clean and organized work environment, ensuring equipment is properly sanitized and stored.
• Participates in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices and departmental procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Monitor technician experience or successful completion of AdventHealth Monitor Technician training program or equivalent. [Required]
• Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English. [Required]
• Proficiency in the English language. [Required]
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]
• Pleasant telephone manner and organizational skills. [Required]
• Ability to work with patients/public in potentially difficult situations. [Required]
• Completion of basic arrhythmias identification course in orientation. [Required]
• Good oral, written, and communication skills. [Required]
• Ability to continuously prioritize multiple duties. [Required]
• Familiar with medical terminology and arrhythmia identification. [Required]
• Ability to quickly learn and successfully complete a competency skill check off list within 90 days of employment. [Required]
• Ability and willingness to work a flexible workweek including weekends, nights, and overtime as required. [Required]

• Demonstrates a specialized level of knowledge and thorough understandings of practices/procedures related to hospital nursing practices, telemetry monitor, and infection control procedures. [Required]
• Basic knowledge of computer use or willingness to learn. [Required]
• Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, which addresses the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and age-appropriate needs of the patient populations served within the department. [Required]
