Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Monitor Tech, you will be responsible for continuous observation and analysis of patients' cardiac rhythms to detect and report changes.

Every day you will meticulously monitor EKG strips, identify arrhythmias, measure intervals, and promptly communicate critical findings to nursing staff and healthcare providers, ensuring accurate documentation.

To be successful, you will demonstrate sharp observational skills, a thorough understanding of cardiac rhythms, and the ability to act quickly and precisely under pressure, crucial for patient safety and timely intervention.

• Continuous observation of monitored EKG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates, and maintains settings and alarms on telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur. Labels strip with patient identification, time, lead monitored, PR interval, ST interval, QRS interval.
• Troubleshoot telemetry equipment, ensure monitors are functioning properly, secure telemetry supplies. Accounts for all telemetry transmitters, verifies daily telemetry charges.
• Identify changes in rate, rhythm, or pattern, notifying RN of these changes. Respond to emergency situations, run continuous EKG strips and notify appropriate staff.
• Assist in answering telephone, ensure transmitters are properly cleaned between patients.
• Demonstrate commitment to personal growth and development by completing annual mandatory in‑services and Code Validation within the given time frame, attending unit‑based in‑services, and monthly departmental meetings. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to unit/service needs, i.e., floating to other areas.

Job Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited EKG Technician Program, upon hire.
• Completed internship at Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center or
• One (1) year of experience as a Monitor Tech, EMT, or Paramedic.
• Basic Life Support – CPR, within 14 days.
