Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking a Monitor to help ensure the security of shelter premises and safety for program clients, visitors, and staff. The role includes monitoring the entrance, screening bags and individuals, conducting room checks, and patrolling the facility to deter theft and ensure safe operations.

Driving responsibilities are included for transporting participants, and staff must act as role models while adhering to mandated reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Fingerprint clearance background check including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
  • TB screening and Immunization Records within 5 days of hire.
  • Current Professional License if applicable (where required).
  • Current BLS Certification within 15 days of hire.
  • Completion of required trainings within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor shelter entrance and screen bags and persons entering shelter.
  • Conduct room checks and patrol premises to maintain safety and security.
  • Provide clientparticipant support and assist shelter staff as needed.
  • Drive participants as directed and maintain program vehicle records.

JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

The Monitor is the entry level position that works to provide security of the program premises and safety for program clients visitors and employees Driving ability preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

SHELTER ENTRANCE MONITORING The front door to the shelter is the only permitted entrance and exit for participants employees partners and vendors Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees participants visitors guest and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premisesBAG & PERSON SCREENING Monitors search all participants person and belongings being brought into the shelter each time a participant enters This is a critical step in ensuring the safety and security of everyone It is important to treat every participant with equal dignity and professionalism every time they are screenedPatrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors windows and gates etc walking the facility and making reports as neededSHELTER SAFETYWhile patrolling observe Shelter to ensure safe operations; report and correct any spills unsafe working conditions or defective equipmentKnow location of fire exits be prepared to assist participants in case of any emergencyMonitor clients and conduct room checks; maintain records of client compliance of program rules report to clinicalcase management staff assist clinicalcase management staff as requiredCall police or fire department in cases of emergency such as fire or presence of unauthorized clientspersonsASSET PROTECTIONAs a non profit agency VOALA must utilize all limited resources effectively and protect from theft loss or damage to the shelters assets Report all suspicious events to direct supervisorResponsible to complete written reports and incidents logs of daily activities and irregularities such as unusual occurrences equipment or property damage theft and presence of unauthorized personsACT AS A ROLE MODEL FOR PARTICIPANTS AT ALL TIMES Learn understand and practice the professionalism expected Put clientsparticipants needs firstCLIENTPARTICIPANT SUPPORTAnswer telephones and take messages for clients and staff monitor doors and greet visitorsMaintain office housekeeping; verifies all common areas laundry areas and restrooms are clean and disinfected & fully operationalAs required by the Program assist shelter staff during provision of services to clientsparticipants including meal preparationserving monitor and record client self administration of prescribed medication set up for classes meetings recreation and other Program eventsDRIVING TASKS for licensed MonitorsTransports individual program participants to and from various locations such as human service locations work sites and medical facilitiesAssists passengers in securing wheelchairs car seats and other mobility devicesEnsures safety of passengers operates vehicle in safe manner at all timesMaintains trip records as well as mileage and gasoline usage recordsMaintain program vehicle in good operating condition clean vehicle and equipment after each pick up and delivery and takes vehicle for routine maintenance and repairESSENTIAL DUTIES Services for this position must be provided on site As a result the position requires incumbents to report to work on site each day of active employmentSHELTER SECURITY Monitor Shelter entrance Screen bags and persons entering shelter Patrol premises as scheduledSHELTER SAFETY Monitor Clients; conduct room checks; report violations of rules While patrolling continuously observe for safe operationsconditions report safety concernsASSET PROTECTION Complete written reports and incidents logs of daily activities and irregularities such as unusual occurrences equipment or property damage theft and presence of unauthorized personsClientparticipant supportDrive participants as directed Part of Client Support for Monitors with licensesOther duties as required and may be subject to changeActs as a role model for participants at all timesMANDATED REPORTER As service providers to the underprivileged and vulnerable in our community all employees are considered Mandated Reporters and must report any instance of physical or sexual abuse to proper authorities

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance background check including criminal history personal references employment and education verificationsCurrent TB screening and Immunization Records within 5 days of hireCopy of Current Professional License if applicableCurrent BLS Certification within 15 days of hireCompletion of all required trainings within 30 days of hireAbility to perform under circumstances of possible emotional stress and conflicts dealing with difficult uncooperative and potentially aggressive clients as VOALA serves the neediest of the needy in our programs which may include clients with homelessness mental illness substance abuse recently released from incarceration and other challenges

EDUCATION

Within 30 days of hire must successfully complete VOALA safety training

High School Diploma or GEDCurrent California drivers license and clean driving record demonstrated Knowledge of CA driving lawsValid Drivers licenseDatabase familiarityClean driving record to be insurable by VOALA insurance
