Pleasant Valley School District is seeking a dedicated staff member to supervise students and help maintain a safe, orderly school environment across the campus. You will monitor entrances, hallways, cafeteria, and common areas, while supporting attendance procedures and reporting safety concerns.

Job description

REPORTS DIRECTLY TO:

Principal or Designee

PURPOSE:

To supervise students in various parts of the school complex, helping to maintain a safe, orderly school environment.

Functions
  • Follows all laws, Board Policies, regulations, rules and procedures, and complies with the instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s).
  • Works primarily independently in assigned settings.
  • Establishes an effective working rapport with all other staff and maintains a positive relationship with the school district’s internal and external publics.
  • Assists the administration, faculty, and staff in maintaining a safe, orderly school environment for students, employees, and visitors.
    • Monitors student behavior in all areas inside and outside of the building as assigned by the school administration.
    • Maintains appropriate relations with and provides assistance to students, staff, and others as requested and/or needed.
    • Reports violations of policies, procedures, or rules and/or any other infractions and/or situations that could impact building, campus, or community safety.
    • Escorts persons (including, but not limited to, students, parents/guardians, visitors).
    • Assists with attendance procedures and attendance information, including tardy information and tardy student procedures (e.g., “late line”) as assigned.
    • Monitors doors and windows and checks to make sure they are properly secured and not propped open inappropriately.
    • Monitors bathrooms, lavatories, and lockers, checking to ensure that logs are appropriately used and checks bathrooms, lavatories and lockers to ensure proper access and use.
    • Monitors hallways/stairways for proper conduct and safety, including checking student IDs, student dress, student passes, and visitor pass identification and ensures the propriety of visitors and others.
    • Monitors parent drop-off and/or pick-up area(s) as assigned.
    • Monitors the cafeteria, wipes cafeteria tables, sweeps the cafeteria floor between lunches and, during times when students are eating, assists students with opening containers, recycling, and student sign-in/sign-out logs, monitoring logs for proper use.
    • Provides office assistance (e.g., deliver items to students/staff as needed, lamination, shredding, filling mail boxes, cover the phone, minimal filing, etc.).
    • Monitors the building during after-school hours to ensure safety, security, and proper conduct/use.
    • Promotes the proper use of school property, reporting misuse and/or unsafe conditions.
  • Maintains accurate records and submits appropriately developed reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
  • As authorized, works the additional hours necessary to complete tasks as assigned.
  • As directed, maintains contemporary job-related knowledge, awareness, and personal growth through participation in professional development activities.
  • Performs the work described herein without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself or others.
  • Performs other duties and related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Has the ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Has a high school diploma, GED, or the equivalent is desired. An associate degree, two (2) years of postsecondary studies from an accredited college or university, or other related educational training is preferred.
  • Experience working in a school setting or other related setting is preferred.
  • Experience working and interacting with students is preferred.
  • Possesses effective communication, judgmental, planning, organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills and is able to contact the internal and external publics with tact and diplomacy.
  • Must possess and display the ability to follow directives and adhere to the established chain of command.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, flexible, appropriately attired, neat in appearance, and able to manage time appropriately.
  • Must maintain a professional demeanor and image.
  • Must be courteous to students, staff, and the general public.
  • As is appropriate, must possess adequate knowledge with regard to applicable technology resources.
  • Must possess adequate interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work independently and/or on a team.
  • Must be able to operate equipment relative to his/her position and perform basic service or repair.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must have the ability to be on one’s feet for prolonged periods of time and the ability and stamina to walk the confines of the building or assigned area.
  • Must be able to move about the work area to perform duties and to access materials, file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Must be able to travel between school district buildings and other job‑related locations as necessary.
  • Must be able to withstand changes in environmental conditions inside and outside of the work facility and to adapt to these changes.
  • Must be able to access all work areas and locations.
  • Must be able to lift as required.
  • Must have the ability to bend, stoop or reach above shoulder level.
  • Must possess acceptable vision and hearing.
  • Must possess the ability to climb stairs and ramps.
