Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking an entry-level Molten Salt Engineer to support our Blanket System team. You will start by executing SOPs, conducting materials testing in molten salts, and maintaining quality controls.

As you gain familiarity with the system, you will design test cells and lead projects addressing corrosion and blanket health monitoring. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and pragmatic risk management within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field.
• 0–2 years of work experience.
• Experience with R&D in a chemical or engineering lab.
• Experience working with safety systems for hazardous chemicals.
• Ability to learn new skills quickly and work in a multidisciplinary team.
• Clear expression and critique of ideas; strong communication and organizational skills.
• Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Perform corrosion testing of novel materials in molten salts.
• Perform device testing in molten salts to obtain statistics on device performance.
• Design and build new test cells for molten salt R&D.
• Assist with lab maintenance and upkeep.
• Write and modify SOPs for safe handling of hazardous chemicals, including fluoride salts (FLiBe).
• As you gain experience, contribute to experimental design and lead projects in materials corrosion and blanket health monitoring.
