Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Molecular Technologist Trainee to join its Invitae Genetics lab in Iselin, NJ. The role is an entry-level opportunity with training aimed at molecular diagnostics.

Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, with responsibilities spanning nucleic acid extraction, sample handling, and quality control. A Bachelor's degree in a chemical/biological science is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• 9 months or more laboratory experience.
• 9 months or more molecular laboratory experience.
• 9 months or more Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Handle specimens and perform nucleic acid extractions following SOPs.
• Prepare for and execute nucleic acid extractions.
• Isolate nucleic acids using manual or automated methods for high-quality samples.
• Operate lab instruments and perform routine maintenance and calibrations.
• Maintain records in LIMS and other systems.
• Assist in orientation and training of new employees.
• Maintain quality control and proficiency testing records.
• Document corrective actions and deviations from performance specs.

Labcorp is seeking a Molecular Technologist Trainee to join its Invitae Genetics lab in Iselin, NJ.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for specimen handling and processing, with a strong emphasis in nucleic acid extractions, following the laboratory’s pre-analytic and analytic procedures and maintaining records of tests
• Carries out day-to-day tasks including prepping for and executing nucleic acid extractions
• Isolates nucleic acids using manual methods and/or automated instrumentation ensuring the delivery of high-quality purified samples for downstream assays
• Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of samples in accordance with standards set forth in standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Operates laboratory instruments and performs routine maintenance & procedural calibrations
• Maintains projects and sample information, protocols, and experimental details through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Assists in the orientation and training of new employees
• Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records
• Maintains records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
• Adheres to the laboratory’s quality assurance procedures including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications and preventive maintenances
• Identifies and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifies the supervisor, assistant director(s) or director
• Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology

Preferred Qualifications

• 9 months or more laboratory experience
• 9 months or more molecular laboratory experience
• 9 months or more Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) lab experience

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems

  • Comfortable handling biological specimens

  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

  Pay-Range

  $25.19- $30.00/hour

  All job offers will be based on a candidate’s skills and prior relevant experience, applicable degrees/certifications, as well as internal equity and market data.
