Job description

PathGroup is seeking a Part-Time Molecular Pathologist to join our established, collaborative molecular diagnostics service at our Airpark laboratory in Nashville, TN. This role supports a busy yet sustainable clinical molecular practice in a modern, highly digital environment. Airpark is PathGroup’s flagship laboratory and a central hub for advanced diagnostics, including molecular pathology. While the position is based at Airpark, work arrangements offer thoughtful flexibility and opportunities for collaboration across locations. This role is well‑suited for a molecular pathologist seeking meaningful clinical work, balance, and a collegial team environment.

Practice Overview
  • Join a team of more than 15 experienced molecular pathologists and PhD scientific directors working in a highly collaborative environment.
  • The service operates within a fully digital pathology workflow, supporting efficient case review and communication.
  • Case volume is consistently busy but not overwhelming, designed to keep pathologists engaged throughout the day.
  • The service is stable, well‑supported, and thoughtfully staffed, with a strong focus on quality and patient care.
Core Clinical Responsibilities

This role includes three primary areas of clinical responsibility:

  • Tumor Tissue Assessment: Review oncology specimens to assess tumor adequacy and ensure appropriate molecular test selection, supporting high‑quality downstream testing. Tissue assessment typically comprises a significant portion of the morning workflow and includes collaboration with internal and external clinical partners.
  • Theranostic IHC Sign‑Out: Participate in a scheduled rotation signing out immunohistochemistry (IHC) studies, including theranostic markers and IHCs associated with established Companion Diagnostic (CDx) indications.
  • Core Molecular Oncology: Perform rotation‑based sign‑out of routine molecular diagnostics, FISH, cytogenetics and next‑generation sequencing (NGS), along with other standard molecular oncology assays.
Leadership & Culture

This role is led by Pranil Chandra, DO, SVP & Chief Genomics Officer, who has been with PathGroup for more than 14 years and is highly respected for his clinical expertise, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to building strong molecular pathology teams. Leadership is accessible and clinically engaged, and the molecular pathology group is known for its collegial culture, depth of expertise, and focus on delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care.

Part‑Time Position

Although structured as a 0.5 position, this role may evolve over time. For candidates interested in expanding to a full‑time schedule, additional hospital‑based pathology opportunities may be paired with this role, typically involving general surgical pathology sign‑out, depending on interest, experience, and organizational need.

Why PathGroup?

  • Innovative Digital Pathology: Leverage cutting‑edge technology for efficiency and advanced diagnostic abilities.
  • Growth & Development: Take advantage of professional development opportunities, training expansion, project collaboration, and other academic‑style professional activities.
  • Work‑Life Balance: The part‑time schedule may be structured as approximately 2.5 full days per week or half‑days spread across the week, depending on service needs and your preference.
