Job summary

Southwest Labs seeks Molecular Clinical Laboratory Scientist I to perform high-complexity testing in the molecular department, operate instrumentation, and ensure accurate, timely patient result reporting under CLIA and CAP guidelines.

You may be cross-trained in Toxicology; required training and competency assessments are part of the role; ASCP preferred. Three months of relevant experience in molecular diagnostics is desired.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in molecular laboratory workflows and good laboratory practices.
• Ability to work effectively in a clinical laboratory and follow supervision.
• Complete required training, competency assessments, and continuing education per CLIA/CAP/Southwest Labs.
• ASCP certification or equivalent preferred but not required.
• Three months of experience performing high-complexity molecular testing; molecular diagnostics preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform high-complexity clinical laboratory testing in accordance with procedures, training, and regulatory requirements.
• Handle specimen receipt verification, preparation, and nucleic acid extraction as directed.
• Conduct real-time RT-PCR and other molecular methods per approved procedures.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and biosafety equipment.
• Document quality activities and support LIS data entry and reporting.
• Maintain a clean, organized work environment and complete required logs and inventory records.
• Participate in competency assessments, proficiency testing, and continuing education.
