Job description

The Pathology Department is seeking a Molecular Diagnostics Technologist to work under the general supervision of the laboratory manager and performs both routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures. Applies a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform both routine and complex clinical and/or research laboratory tests on different specimens, including but not limited to blood, bone marrow, and formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded specimens, in accordance with established standards and procedures.
  • Prepare and determine the suitability of reagents following defined formulas and procedures.
  • Document and report test results.
  • Complete required logs and supporting documents.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, including routine repairs, and notify service personnel of more complex problems.
  • Perform related general duties, e.g. order supplies, perform general lab maintenance, maintain safety records, etc.
  • Participate in the training of new employees, learners, and physicians on laboratory methodology.
  • Strictly comply with patient care and confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, chemistry or related field.
  • One year of experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Molecular Biology (MB) ASCP certification.
