Job summary

Cherokee Federal seeks a Molecular Biology Researcher to support a federal client in Gainesville, FL. You will lead molecular and genetic analyses on invasive and imperiled species, support environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding projects, conduct field sampling, and publish results to inform natural resource management.

Responsibilities include designing experiments, extracting and quantifying DNA/RNA, PCR/qPCR/ddPCR, data management, QA, and presenting at meetings.

Qualifications

• PhD with 5+ years experience required.
• Hands-on DNA sequencing; eDNA or qPCR metabarcoding preferred.
• Proficiency in PCR/qPCR/ddPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, primer design, gel electrophoresis, and lab equipment operation/maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Lead lab research on eDNA, metabarcoding, population genetics, and disease research.
• Extract, purify, and quantify DNA/RNA; perform PCR/qPCR/ddPCR.
• Maintain and operate lab equipment; manage inventory; prepare solutions.
• Train scientists, students, and volunteers; coordinate lab activities.
• Plan and conduct multi-day fieldwork; collect samples and environmental data.
• Perform literature reviews; organize data and metadata; support meetings and proposals.
